Mary Hodges Caldwell


     Mary Hodges Caldwell, the third daughter of Frank Lester and Beatrice McCoy Hodges (deceased), died in the hospital on June 20, 2008.

     She is survived by her husband, Dr. John Simmons Caldwell Jr., M.D.; daughter, Sally Caldwell of Springfield, Virginia, and sons, John S. Caldwell III and Richard Hodges Caldwell of Freeport; one grandson, Travis Ried Caldwell; sister, Frances Ruth Newman of Bryan; brothers-in-law, Charles James Newman of Bryan and James Hayden Moore of Beaumont; and numerous nieces and nephews and several grand-nieces and nephews.

     Private services are pending.

Mary Hodges Caldwell
March 15, 1921 - June 20, 2008

     Mary Hodges Caldwell, 87, of Freeport, Texas died on June 20, 2008.

     Mary was born in Lott, Texas on March 15, 1921 to Frank Lester and Beatrice McCoy Hodges. She attended school in Lott and Chilton. She graduated from Chilton High School in 1938 and received her bachelor's degree from Texas Women's University. She taught school in the Brazosport and Freeport school districts for many years.

     Mary married John Simmons Caldwell, Jr. M.D. in Marlin, Texas in 1948.

     She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years of Freeport; daughter, Sally Caldwell of Springfield, Virginia; two sons, Johns S. Caldwell, III and Richard Hodges Caldwell of Freeport, Texas; one grandson, Travis Ried Caldwell; sister, Frances Ruth Newman of Bryan, Texas; two brothers-in-law, Charles James Newman of Bryan, Texas and James Hayden Moore of Beaumont, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

     Mary is preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Frank L. Hodges, Jr. and two sisters Margaret Moore and Katherine Jones.

     Memorial services were held on June 25, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Freeport, Texas.
