W. H. BYRD

       W. H. Byrd, 93, of Marlin, died Sunday, July 5 in a local hospital.  Mr. Byrd was born December 24, 1904 at Prairie Grove in Limestone Co. to William and Gertrude Herring Byrd.  Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 7 at Calvary Cemetery with Dr. John Jenkins officiating.
       In 1931, Mr. Byrd moved to Marlin and began working for the late J. M. Kennedy at the Marlin Democrat Publishing Co.  He worked there for 41 years before retiring in January 1972.
       On June 24, 1933, he married the former Rosalie Durham in Marlin.  He and his wife recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
       Mr. Byrd joined the First Baptist Church of Marlin in 1923.  He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and on the Board of Directors.  He was a member of Lodge #152 AF&AM for over 50 years.
       Survivors include his wife, Rosalie; two sons, William D. Byrd and wife of Hallettsville and Thomas L. Byrd and wife of Austin; six grandchildren, four great granchildren; two sisters, Mary Thompson of Groesbeck and Ruth Dupree of Conroe; and one brother, Paul Byrd of Oletha.
       In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Marlin.
