               BREMOND SCHOOL FACULTY HONORS BOARD MEMBERS AND 

                                                  ATHLETIC AWARD MADE

 

Bremond Independent School District Board members were honored guests at a banquet given by the school faculty  Thursday night.  Approximately one hundred twenty-five Bremond citizens and high school students attended the banquet held in the school cafeteria.

 

Also honored on the occasion were members of the 1949 football squad, high school pepper girls and parents of the football players.

 

Following the invocation, led by Miss Eunice Baker, the guests of the evening were served a ham dinner by members of the school faculty, after which followed a program with J. W. Baker, school superintendent, as master of ceremonies.

 

Baker introduced the group, J. H. Kotch, president of the board, who presented individual members of the board, each being accompanied to the microphone by his wife.  Board members other than President Kotch honored were K.C. Wozniak, Raymond Holmes, J. R. Peyton, Stash Hoblinski, Paul Kwasnica, and Dr. J. G. Sanders.

 

Dr. Sanders, chairman of the athletic committee of the school board, delivered a short address in which he praised the school faculty, football team, and the spirit of the pep squad.  He introduced to the group Bremond’s football Coach B.A. Pierson, who awarded jackets to the lettermen of the 1949 football squad.  In addition to the jackets Pierson also presented silver footballs to the members of the second team.  Pierson presented a gold medal to the most outstanding star of the 1949 football team.  The student receiving this honor was Joel Petteway, senior, who has made the all district football team for three consecutive years.  Petteway, like other lettermen, was escorted to the head table by his parents.

 

Boys receiving award jackets were Joel Petteway, William Cicherski, Johnny Slenk, Ed Okonski, Floyd Dziedzic, Richard Stasky, Eddie Bosak, Milton Trojeck, Chris Burda, Chris Mocek, Fred Syzdek, Harold Wynn, Rex Knapik, Raymond Yamowski, Harold Barber Frank W. Grayson, Felix Widaski, Joe Strugala, and Paul Stasky and Kenneth Williams, who were managers of the 1949 team.

 

Those receiving second team awards, silver footballs, were Hollis O’Brien, Melvin Jackson, Bud Pruitt, Jimmie Hunter, and Robert Yastic.

 

Following the awards, the guests of the evening were shown two motion pictures projected by high school Principal J. C. Black.  Also on the program were Van K. Jone—

grammer school principal who presented Mrs. Roger Garrett and five members of her music classes.   Joan Abraham led with a vocal solo, “Dear Hearts and Gentle People,” followed by the popular Bremond High School quartet, consisting of Linda Ables, Patsy McLeod, Bessie Ann Lastor, and Betty Jean Holmes, who sang three popular numbers.

 

Following  the music club’s portion of the program, Jack Arnold, high school assistant coach, Raymond Yanowski, and Milton Trojeck entertained the group with several string instrument numbers.  Mrs. Joe Trojeck, Mrs. Vivian Ma-cy, and Miss Peggy Sullivan presented musical numbers.

 

A surprise portion of the program was handled by several members of the pep squad who, led by their president, Joan Abraham, presented the pep squad sponsors, Mrs. T. B. Carroll and Miss Monte Rhea Porter, with table gifts.

 

Faculty members composing committees on arrangements were  -.D.Pettey, Mrs. R. W. Brown, Miss Mattie Bennett,Miss Mildred Hearne, Mrs. Seth Brantner,  Miss Ruth Williams, Mrs. Annie Storrs, and Wesley Mead.

 

A child’s habits and conduct is likely to be patterned after that of her parents.  Therefore it is necessary that the parents possess and practice the traits they would like to develop in their children.
