LOCAL CHAIRMAN CALLS
FOR WOMEN FOR WAACs
Miss Marjorie Rogers Recently
Appointed County Chairman
Calls Attention to Opportunities
of Young Women for Service.
One hundred and fifty thousand women are needed for the WAAC to replace the
services of American soldiers for active combat service, said Marjorie Rogers,
County Chairman for the purpose of mobilization of competent women in the County
into a voluntary force which will effectively tell the story of the WAAC to
eligibles over the County.
In a letter to Miss Rogers from Colonel C.
K. (Rene)hart (?) (paper torn) Field Artillery, District (Recr)uiting and
Induction Officer, he stated: "There is no more important task which women can
undertake today than supplying recruits to the WAAC, every one of whom will
permit a soldier to leave a noncombatant job and take his place in the fighting
lines."
These young women from 21 to 45 will
receive a basic salary of $50 per month with chance for rapid promotions.
They are given the best of care and training. Their educational
requirements are reasonable, says Miss Rogers.
Mrs. Levi Goodrich has been appointed
Chairman of Marlin women for the organization of work in Marlin. She will
call a group of women together soon for the purpose of setting up an attractive
information booth in Marlin where young women can make application for the WAAC.
MIss Vera Warrock of Rosebud has accepted
appointment of Chairman for work in Rosebud and smaller communities in that
section.
Negro recruiting booths will be under the
Chairmanship of Elcenia Johnson teacher in Booker T. Washington High School.
