Braden Adkins Injured in Highway Accident Friday
Braden Adkins received cuts and bruises
about the head and multiple scratches and bruises about the body in an
automobile accident about 6 o’clock Friday afternoon at Big Creek, where he
narrowly escaped more serious results.
Adkins is investigator in the Falls Co. Old
Age Assistance office.
Driving north on Highway 6, Adkins was
alone in the car when it struck the first concrete bannister on the east side of
the Big Creek bridge. Observers believe that trouble in the right rear tire
caused the accident as it was noticed swaying for a moment prior to the impact
with the concrete post. After striking the post, the car swayed to the concrete
railing on the west side of the bridge. The car turned over, Adkins fell out,
and as the momentum of the car continued, it righted itself and rolled back over
the unconscious man. The car was enveloped in flames.
A Greyhound bus going south was close to
the scene. The driver, named Chandler, a soldier and sailor lifted the car and
rescued the helpless man. Shortly afterwards, the gasoline tank exploded. He was
brought to Marlin in an ambulance and is in a local hospital.
The automobile is almost a total loss from
the dash to the rear, due to the crash and flames.
