EARTHQUAKE FELT BY
MARLIN RESIDENTS

Rattling Windows, Moving Beds and Excited

-----

Shaking a large section of Texas early Sunday, earthquake shocks were felt in Marlin, incidents in connection with the tremor being reported by a number of residents of the city.
Persons unaware of the cause at the time, described the trembling effect created by the quake as similar to vibrations from a moving train, accompanied by a sound resembling an echo as if from a great distance.
Rattling of windows in many residences of the city resulted from the earth shocks.
One resident reported a bed moved, while another noticed windows shaking.
Other residents of Marlin were awakened suddenly by the temblor, some reporting a queer feeling coming over them, doubtless caused by the unusual nature of the disturbance in this section.
The shocks among birds and chickens was reported over the city about the time the quake was felt.
The shocks generally were reported felt around 5:40 a.m. in this section of the state.
The tremor was felt at Lott, reports from there today stated, a resident of that town telling of being awakened by the quake.
Among persons noting effect of the quake on their beds in Marlin, one resident described it as a "gentle rocking," while another said it resembled a "swaying."
So violent was the rattling of one window that an occupant of the house arose to lower it, estimating it was between 5:30 and 6 o'clock and lasted about a half a minute.
Some residents reported nothing light globes swinging and their reaction that it was probably caused by an earthquake.
