Old Pete Meets Tragic Death.
-----

For twenty years or more, "Old Pete" and his mate have been familiar figures on the streets of Marlin.  "Old Pete" will not be seen among the living anymore for his body has been consigned to the bone yard.
Pete was one of the mules driven to a delivery wagon of Nash, Robinson & Co., for twenty-three years.  He was broken in by the late J. W. Robinson when the firm name was T. W. Griffeths & Co., and had never been off duty any length of time since.
Pete was turned into the lot Sunday with a number of other mules and some horses.  One of the horses kicked Pete in the neck and his death was instantaneous.  His demise is deeply regretted by the firm and its employees, not for his intrinsic value but on account of his long and faithful service for the firm.  He and his team mate were a prize pair of mules, having drawn a $50 prize in a contest with the best in the county.
