A Lively Runaway.
-----
F. H. Bartlett, the front
chairman at McKewen's barbership and Frank Greer were two of the central figures
in an exciting runaway Sunday night at 10:30, a livery horse of the Fannin
stable being the third and decidedly the leading figure.
Mr. Bartlett, accompanied by Frank, were
returning from a drive east of town and were up on Live Oak street jogging along
and enjoying the exhilerating atmosphere of the evening. "All of a
sudden," a howling canine appeared and made a lunge for the horse's heels.
This acted like an electrical charge on the horse and he moved off at about a
three minute gait that was accelerated at every jump. The dashboard only
lasted a few seconds and Frank was kicked in the solar plexus and rendered
breathless for a time. Bartlett, realizing that it was time to act, drew
the horse into the fence and it was all over.
The horse was considerably damaged and the
buggy demolished. The occupants were not injured seriously.
