MYSTERIOUS WATER SUPPLY,
-----
Incident Recalls Similar One in (F)alls
County.

From Hico is reported a very strange condition with regard to the appearance of water.  The special says:
"The dry weather continues, though the creek and branches have started to running.  Some branches that have been dry six or eight months are now running nicely and farmers say the ground is in good condition to plow, as the moisture has risen from some where."
"In a well on C. E. Cunningham's premises here that has been dry for the last four months the water is running in at the sides in small streams.  It is sieping (sic) water as fast as if the earth was full of water from a protracted wet spell, Chambers Creek is also running, where it was dry a short time ago."
The writer knows of a similar mystery that occurred in Fallas county in the summer of 1878 or '79.  A dry creek bed there (--)anders through several plantations above Marlin, finding outlet in the Brazos river.  It enters the bottoms at the old John Fortune place.  This branch is always dry, except when it rains and has no springs to feed it.  In the summer of the year referred to, in the midst of a protracted drouth, the branch suddenly became filled with water that rose through the sand near its source.  For some days a considerable stream of pure, clear water was in evidence until further down the dry sands and cracks licked it all up.  It ceased flowing as suddenly as it began, and up to a few years ago, there had been no repetition of the phenomenon.--Temple Tribune.
