REPUBLICAN MEETING.
Marlin, Texas, July 8th 1902.
--Pursuant to a call meeting of the
Republican Executive committee by chairman A Z Wheeler the committee assembled
at the Court House in Marlin to take action in matters pertaining to the coming
election. The following committeemen were present:
T T Taylor, A G Salters, Willie Blair,
Green Bell, Geo James G W
Washington, J H Childs, prox for Joe Dickson.
The following were admitted as advisory
committee:--J A Anderson, H Denson and R C Shaw.
There has been no time in the history of
republicans than where such concerted actions were manifested. The
chairman had the call read to the public as this day resembled an old convention
day, after which the committee repaired to a room where a secret session under
closed doors were held.
The meeting was strictly business and
absolutely void of "boom arranging." The important business which consumed
most of the session was the plans by which to ascertain the republican strength
of the county, finally it was agreed to proceed at once to organize clubs at
every school house in each community and prepare for registration, the same to
be under the supervision of each precinct chairman and each chairman there by to
submit the roll at the next meeting of the executive committee, July 22 inst.
J H Childs, L S Simmons and J A Anderson were appointed to prepare the
registration lists which are to be used in the enrolling.
There was never a time in the party when
the republican party was in harmony as now.
Each republican in the county was urged to
enroll and that each chairman make a close canvass.
This was the only matter considered at this
meeting the committee adjourned to meet July 22, 1902.
A Z Wheeler.
Chairman.
L S Simmons,
Secretary.
