The Marlin Business League held quite an interesting meeting at the Mayor's office Monday night.  The attendance was not as good as it might have been, but the business was all disposed of by those present.
Mayor Shelton presided in the absence of the president.  Secretary L. Z. Harrison was at his desk with the minutes.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Under the head of communications the secretary read a communication from General Superintendent LeRoy Trice in which he stated that his road was always willing to assist the towns along their road in furthering their development.  The letter was filed.
Also a communication from W. W. Dexter, of Houston.  relative to advertising together with some propositions for same.  The letter was referred to the advertising committee.
A communication from the Interstate Commerce Commission was read and the secretary was instructed to make suitable answer.
Under reports of officers the Treasurer, C. T. Curry reported that $647.50 had been paid into the treasury.  the Treasurer further stated that the compress matter had been adjusted he hoped that there would be no hitch.
The compress matter having been introduced Manager L. Z. Harrison of the Arlington took occasion to say that he wanted it distinctly understood that the report that he objected to the compress being located on the school lot was a misinformation and that he had never objected.  He further remarked that he enjoyed being in a town where there was lots of noise as that meant a good town.
Mayor Shelton here observed that the compress was a settled fact and it was going on to make the school lot.  He also said along the lines of industries that he was very much in favor of a cotton mill in Marlin and was going to make some investigations along that line and that a Houston man man (sic) had already proposed to take 20 per cent of the stock.
Under reports of committees, Chairman Robertson reported that the Entertainment Committee had located the band at the pavillion and the music had been improved 25 per cent lately.  He asked authority to employ the band for an additional two weeks.  Granted.
An order was passed to pay light wiring and lights for pavillion.
The advertising committee reported that they had authorized the printing of descriptive matter on the reverse side of envelopes, that they had estimates under consideration for 20,000 booklets for a more detailed advertising of Marlin as a health resort.  The report was ordered filed.
Under the head of new business the street fair and carnival came up.  James R. Taylor, chairman of the Carnival Committee made a statement of the benefits to be derived from such an enterprise and that it had proven a great success whereever held.  His remarks, were well received and the League passed a motion to endorse the enterprise and lend it every possible encouragement.
A committee consisting of Jno. G. Oltorf and L. Z. Harrison were appointed to assist and cooperate with Mr. Taylor in arranging the details for holding the fair and carnival.
The league adjourned after a most interesting, business like meeting.
