Jackson and Johnson Have
Fight In The Court
House

Mattie Jackson
and Rosa Johnson, two sable colored amazons engaged in a pitched battle in the
corridor of the court house Monday. The cases of the disturbance was green eyed
jealousy. The engagement was in two rounds and the combatants were both
disposed to fight it to a finish. Constable Peebles and his assistant Lewis
Brooks separated the angry pugilistees, but not without considerable physical
exertion. The Johnson woman got wrathy at teh constable ofr what she evidently
believed was his unwarranted interference of her right to engage in mortal
combat whenever it suited her inclonation, and proceeded to hand the constable a
hot one in the face. The constable was prompt to return the fire and Rosa was
sent to the ground in a heap. No serious damage was done to either but the two
women had to answer in justice court to fighting in a public place.
