INVESTIGATING THE DISEASE
~~~~~
Dr. Knight Examines Stock
And Baccilla
~~~~~

     Dr. Knight, state veterinary surgeon, spent all of Friday at Lott making examinations of stock supposed to be afflicted with anthrax, certainly with some disease that has made the mortuary record run up high within the past few months.
     Several animals sick with the disease were examined and on his return to Marlin, in company with Dr. J. A. Davis of this city, he went out to the bone yard and secured a quantity of blood from a horse that had died Friday afternoon in Marlin, from the dame trouble existing among horses at Lott, Reagan, Marlin, and other places in the county.
     The blood was subjected to a minute examination and analysis by Dr. Knight and others to determine, if possible, the exact nature of the germ or baciila.
     To a reporter for the DEMOCRAT Dr. Knight stated that he had not determined yet just what the disease was and could not do so until he had thoroughly analyzed the blood taken from the dead animals here.  It is quite evident, however, that he dies not believe that it is staggers that is taking off so many.
     He left Saturday for Houston but may make a return trip in the near future when he should take time to determine just the nature of the disease by practical experiments.
     Some of the local physicians who have given the matter some attention state that in their opinion there is no anthrax here.
