COTTON THIEVES CAUGHT.
-----
Had Stolen Four Hundred pounds Of
Cotton Seed.
-----
Two negroes, Clifton and Henry Jones, were arrested Saturday afternoon by Deputy
Sheriff Frank Stallworth on a charge of stealing cotton. Deputy Stallworth
had a lively chase after them and fired a shot in the air, hoping to "slow them
down." He finally landed them behind the bars, however.
The negroes are charged with the theft of
about four hundred pounds of seed cotton from Steve Hamphill's farm Friday
night. The cotton was taken from the pile where it had been left and
brought to town and sold to the Marlin Oil Company's gin and circumstances point
very strongly to the parties now under arrest.
