LOCAL HAPPENINGS.

 

    R. F. Pool of Cameron, is in the city on business.

 

    J. M. Collins of Temple is among the visitors.

 

    Stephen A. Douglas of Waco is a visitor to Marlin.

 

    Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Hood of Waco are visitors to Marlin.

 

    Geo. Miller and F. W. Harris of houston are visitors to Marlin.

 

    S. L. Gill of Dallas is in Marlin looking for after business matters.

 

    W. L. Williams and T. W. Riley of Mt. Calm are visitors to Marlin.

 

    Mrs. Joe Levy has returned from a visit to her sister in Oklahoma.

 

    Mrs. W. A. Stuckey and Miss Christine Stuckey of Bonham are visitors to Marlin, guests at the Fannin.

 

    T. H. Thorn of San Francisco is a visitor to Marlin, a guest at the Majestic.

 

    W. L. King of Gainesville is among the recent arrivals at the Majestic.

 

    Permits to wed have been granted to:

    D. C. Collier and Mrs. M. B. Moore,

    W. H. Frazier and Miss Esther Lawrence.

 

    R. T. Dennis & Co. purchased the bankrupt stock of furniture Tuesday and area advertising the same in this issue.

 

    Dallas Thompson of Venus, who resided in Marlin many years ago, is in the city.  He is one of the old-timers in Texas.

 

    Dr. S. P. Rice has been elected by the school board to the vacancy caused in that body by the resignation of Judge B. H. Rice.

    Lee Murphy, conductor on the L. & G. N. railway, spent Wednesday afternoon and night visiting relatives in Marlin.

 

    Constable W. M. Krumnow of the Otto precinct, brought down two "victims" Tuesday afternoon.  They were charged with raising a disturbance in that town.

 

    The Falls county Farmer's Union will convene in special session at Marlin Saturday to consider business of great importance as per the call of the secretary.

 

    Rev. M. T. Andrews, Misses Mamie and Bertie and Louise Andrews went to Lampasas Wednesday.  Mrs. Andrews and the other children will follow in a few days.

 

    J. P. Burris, traveling freight agent of the I. & G. N. railway, came in Wednesday afternoon on business for his road.  He reports business improving and the financial condition getting brighter in his territory.

 

    Judge Faudi of the Otto precinct reports the sudden death of Mrs. Chas. Poppendorf, which occurred at 3 a.m. on December 9, from heart trouble.  Her demise was very unexpected.  The family resided on Geo. Bletsch's farm.

 

    Pastor R. L. Williams of the colored First Baptist church, is feeling very grateful over the fact that the church debt has been lifted.  Since his pastorate here, which covers eight years, the church has purchased the lot and built the house, the cost being about $7,000.  He acknowledges the assistance extended him and his church by the white people and requests The Democrat to express his earnest thanks to them.
