LOCAL HAPPENINGS.

    Miss Valda and Charley Hammer of Hubbard City are visiting friends in Marlin.

 

    Mrs. Arch Grinnan , who is visiting her mother in the city, has returned from a visit to Waco.

 

    Permits to wed:

 

    Chas. C. Tarpey, Mrs. J. P. Powell;

    W. H. Frazier, Esther Lawrence;

    Vick White, Bessie Burns.

 

    There is a good demand for poultry in Marlin, Ther is some shipping, and quite a good deal locally consumed.

 

    Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Stoune of Dallas and Mrs. J. M. Kinard of Bremond are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Dean.

 

    Three "soldiers" joined Coxey's army at Chilton Friday.  There were Bath Brown, "General" Bryant, and Charley Little, all fined for raising a disturbance at Otto several days ago.

 

    Editor Forest Gaither of the Chilton News was a visitor to Marlin Saturday.  Says the roads in some places are well nigh impassable and show no signs of immediate improvement.

 

    Misses Fannie Sewall and Hattie Stinson and Jesse Eddins and Jesse Nettles left Friday afternoon for Bobbin where they will spend the holidays.

 

    Mrs. Earle H. Trawick and Miss Christine Rickelmann of Weinert, Texas, are here to spend the holidays with their sisters, Mrs. J. W. Harter and Miss Clara Rickelmann.

 

    The concert given Thursday night by the five Trier sisters at the Arlington opera house proved an entertainment of a high order.  The audience was not large but those who were there were well pleased with the program and the manner in which it was rendered.

 

    The Falls county teachers will be in Marlin in force next week, the institute convening Tuesday for a five days' session.  The schools over the county will be closed for the time as the law requires all the teachers to attend the institute.  Supt. Eddins and the program committee have arranged a very attractive program for the week.

 

    The damage case of McBryde & Dillard vs. the S.A. & A. P. Raiway (sic) Company was called for trial in county court Friday.  The suit is for the recovery of damages alleged to have been incured to a shipment of horses.  The case has been pending for quite awhile.  The plaintiffs are represented by J. W. Woods and Tom Connally and the defendant company by Waller S. Baker of Waco.

 

    Almost everybody knows Jack Christian, the only barbecue man.  Well, he has moved his eating house to the Reeves & Kay market (the old Wise stand), where he will be pleased to see his friends and patrons and serve them in the same good old way.  Bear in mind that he serves the earliest breakfast in Marlin and is feeding pen.
