       The jury in the case of Oscar Dudley charged with criminal assault gave the defendant 25 years in the penitentiary.

       L. N. Stanley, Esq., announces in this issue of the
Democrat as a candidate for Justice of the Peace of precinct No. 1, subject to action of the democratic primaries.

       The present blizzard, accompanied by snow and sleet, is very severe in some of the northern states.  On som(e) (of) the railroads the snow drifts are so high that the train cannot pass.

       Trying to enjooy life without doing something useful is like trying to thread a cambric needle with a rope.

       Evangelist Jno. W. Marshall held quite an unique service Sunday afternoon.  He had requested letters from young men describing their ideal of a young lady and of the young ladies he had requested a simular (sic) letter describing their ideal of a young man.  This is quite an original idea with Mr. Marshall.

       Col. Andrew Carnegie has indicated his purpose to donate $10,000 to the city of Temple for a library building.  The favor of the great iron king was secured through the agency of the federated women's club of Temple and if an organization would speak for Marlin it is possible that Mr. Carnegie would look with favor and make a liberal donation for a like purpose in this city.

       STRAYED--One dun horse mule, brand, the picture of a hat, with black stripe down back.  Strayed about October.  Will pay $5.00 for his recovery.                                          H. G. Carter
