LOCAL NEWS.
Col. O. T. Holt was nominated for mayor of Houston by a majority of about 2300.
The entire Holt ticket won by about the same majority.

Throughout Falls county next Saturday an election will be held in every school
community to elect school trustees for the ensuing Scholastic term.

Quite a number of Marlinites including all the county candidates, went to
Westphalia Monday to attend the school picnic. They report a great time
out there.

The veterans are getting things in readiness for soliciting funds with which to
purchase the Oltorf lake and park for a confederate encampmentground (sic).

Charley Lange has returned from an extended visit to this old in the Faderland.
It was rumored that Charley had gone over to get married, but it was all a
mistake.

The city water works maisn are being laid "in a storm," as it were. Four
more car loads of piping arrived yesterday afternoon and the work will be pushed
vigorously to completion.

The people of Reagan have not had any rain now in some time and they are needing
it quite badly. This is, we believe, about the only community that has not
been visited by rain recently.

The passing of Lent was observed Monday night at the Sons of Herman Hall with a
"Mother Hubbard" party. There were about one hundred people preasent (sic)
and the dance lasted until 2 a.m. The German-Americans of the city number
this as one of the most pleasant events of the season.

Captain John Bellinger says that he has his books in tip top order to be turned
over when his successor shall have qualified. During his incumbency the
Captain has collected in round numbers $85,000 for the city.

Two or three citizens of Marlin will go to Austin this week to interest the
governor in behalf of John Roan, the negro under sentence of death. Considerable
documentary evidence has been forwarded to the governor by the county attorney's
office.

Capt. John McClanahan, the old veteran soldier and democrat from Center was in
the city Wednesday, the first time in a good while. The Captain has been
afflicted with rheumatism now a great many years, but is bearing up well.

The Court of Civil Appeals has declared the Texas anti trust law
unconstitutional. The case before the court was the Waters Pierce case,
about which so much has been said in this congressional district.

The city election at Lott resulted in the election of John T. Barlow as mayor
and thefollowing (sic) aldermen: Geo. A. Hodges, A. Poulson, M. A. Reese,
R. P. Watts, J. R. Haden. W. R. Southwell, son of J. R. Southwell, was
elected city marshal.

Hon. Tom Connally is in McLennan county this week looking after his fences.
He and the other two candidates, J. S. Almsworth and A. M. Kennedy, are filling
a number of dates in that county.

Deputy Sheriff Jim
Tomlinson and Constable J. U. Richey of Lott, made a trip down to the upper edge
of Robertson county Wednesday with Mr. Ritchee's blood hounds in search of the
negro Will Henderson, wanted for murder. They could find no trace of the
negro.
