LOCALS.

 

    Easter in Marlin was observed by a number of the churches.  Special services were held at some of them and at others the pastors dwelt upon the day in their sermons.

    If the city council could see its way clear to employing a man and his team to regularly clean the streets in the business district they would fill a long felt want.

    The W.M.C. had a very pleasant meeting with Miss Branson as hostess.  Call roll was responded to with contemporaries of Dvorak.  Most of the business session was taken up with completing business relative to the MacDowell afternoon.  It was found that we had cleared $40.00. which amount was forwarded to the trustee of the MacDowell fund.

    A most entertaining lesson on Dvorak was led by Mrs. Tom Connally, after which the following program was rendered:

 

    Vocal solo--"under the Rose," Miss Louise Finks.

    Piano solo--"Pastorale," Scr(-)atti, Miss Marian Clarkson.

    Vocal solo--"SinceWeParted,"  Mrs. Connally.

    Paper--American Song Writers - Miss Sallie Peyton.

    Pianoduet--Silhouette,Dvorak,Mrs. Levi and Miss Frank.

    Piano solo--Mazurka Leschiti(--)i, Mrs. Torbett.

    (P)iano solo--Traika Tschaiko(-)i, Miss Frank.

(Af)ter adjountment Miss Branson served delicious cream and (----).

    (The) club meets next with Mrs. (----)head.

    W. T. Palmer and P. C. Byrn are enlarging their store to accommodate their increased trade.  Their store will be extended the length of the building and this will enable them to carry a much larger stock.

    The election held in the Wilson school district on the special school tax propositioned resulted in a victory for the tax, and County Superintendent Eddins, is very happy.
