LOCAL HAPPENINGS.

 

    Northern seed corn for sale by Nash, Robinson & Co.

 

    Geo. E. Sanders is now with the electric light and ice plant in a collecting capacity.

 

    Orange and amber cane seed now on hand.  Nash, Robinson & Co.

 

    Frank Oakes has purchased the residence property of J. A. Gill and will move to Marlin.  Mr. Gill will return to Otto.

 

    FOR SALE:  White Wyandotte chickens and eggs.  Apply to E. M. Eddins, Marlin, Texas.

 

    The Dupree interest in the Smith-Dupree drug company has been purchased by Dr. B. G. Ward and Frank A. Oakes.

 

    Jurors, have your watch repaired and regulated by A. O. Bowdon and you will be on time.

 

    F. P. Hutchingson has returned from Hico where he went to visit his father, who was seriously injured while alighting from a train.

     Richard Sutton, a (--)uning white man, was placed in ja(il) in default of bond on a charge of disturbing religious worship.  The complaint was filed at Chilton.

    L. A. Murphy, of Ma(--) was here Sunday visitng his parents.  Lee spent last week in (---)tin where he was sent by the city employee's order to oppo(----) reduction in passenger fare.

    E. T. Renfro, of Fort Worth (missing) greeting friends in Marlin. (He) is the president and manager the Renfro Drug Company at Ft. Worth and is doing a fine business.

 

    Mrs. W. H. Ballou of Brady is visiting her mother, Mrs. C. D. Newbold.

    An election will be held in all the school districts, except independent, on Saturday next, for the election of trustees.

 

    Mrs. R. B. McKnight is critically ill at Rice Allen infirmary.  An operation was performed for tumor and the patient is now doing very well.

 

    John Lucas, charged with setting fire to the Dr. Cook house, was discharged Thursday afternoon on an examination before Judge Dashiell.  The defense was an alibi.

 

    Tax Assessor J. H. Barnett went to Austin Thursday to attend a meeting of the state tax assessors' association which is conferring with State Revenue Agent McDonald on assessment matters.

 

    Judge D. H. Boyles has returned from Houston where he went on a visit to his sons, Rev. Frank Boyles and Dan Boyles.  While there he attended the state association of Methodist Sunday Schools, and reports a very successful meeting.

 

     G. T. Epstein has purchased the account of Mose Levy, Sr., store building on Live Oak  street owned by L. Levy of Ennis, and occupied for several years by B. F. Foster.  Consideration $6.500.

 

    Geo. Sanders, the negro who raised the disturbance at J. W. Harter's store Saturday afternoon and was put out of commission by Charles Schub, plead guilty to disturbing the peace and was appropriately fined in corporation court.

 

    The official canvas of the stock law election returns of the Lott precinct, as made by the county judge, county clerk and justice of the peace, show 172 votes for the law and 53 against it.  The election included all the voting precincts in Justice Precinct No. 4.

 

    The warehouse committee of the farmers union, composed of Messrs Newman, Kuretsch, and Scheef, were in town Monday afternoon to confer with the committee of the business league.  Something definite may be expected soon.

    In regard to his disappointment in failing to secure the shipment of horses, referred to in another column, I. N. Conyers said "I have some other good horses in Thurday and those wishing to buy will find some good ones at the farmers wagon yard after Thursday."

    This is from the Mobile Register:  Of all the balmy spring days which have been enjoyed during the past week.  Tuesday was made the most memorable for the fortunate young ladies when Miss Alice Kimbell entertained during the afternoon from four four (sic) to six, in honor of her charming cousin, MIss Stallworth of Marlin, Texas, who will be a much appreciated visitor in Jackson for several weeks.
