LOCALS

The colored Summer Normal of this district will meet in Marlin June 26 and remain in session until July 31.  Prof. J. Washington has been appointed conductor.

The German Evangelical Synod of the United States., District of Texas, will meet with the Rev. S. D. Press near Marlin Thursday May 22, and remain in session until Monday.

One of the propositions soon to be considered by the committee on city development of the Marlin Business League is the sinking of another artesian well.  It is generally agreed that if one well is a good thing two would be better.  It would mean other institutions to assist in developing the resources of Marlin and filling the town with people.

The congressional candidates were billed for a j(oin)t discussion at Westphalia (Mo)nday at the picnic.  Other appointments for this week are Ch(ilt)on Tuesday night, Durango Thursday night and Blevins Saturday night.  These are Mr. Henry's appointments and he has divided time at all of them with Mr. Thomas.

Hon Winbourne Pearce of Belton, spoke at Stranger Friday night in the interest of Mr. Henry. Hon. Jap Arnold of Gatesville spoke at Otto Thursday night to the interest of Mr. Thomas and had dates at Mustang and McClanahan.

F. M. Maxwell and J E Yantis locked horns Friday at Rosebud, the former for Henry and the latter for Thomas.  Maxwell also met Dr. R. Pendleton at Durango and Yantis spoke at Travis.

Dan M Jackson spoke at Eureka Saturday night in the interest of Mr. Henry and a Henry democratic club was organized with Jno. C. Criswell president and C E Saxon secretary.

C D Johnson, a negro school teacher who taught at Upper Zion school, has been arrested on a charge of forgery, the complaint having been filed by County Superintendent J P Kennard.  Johnson's offense consisted in affixing the names of trustees to his vouchers, which in some instances are said to have been "raised."  Johnson was arraigned before C J Bartlett who placed his
bond at $1000, failing to give which he was sent to jail.
