Mr S H Johnson of the Marlin Grocery Co., advances a good suggestion in view of the failure of the corn crop.  The suggestoin (sic) is to plant Kaffir corn and Milo maize.  It takes very little rain to bring the seed up and mature the crop.  They make good feed and in many parts of the west, in the semi-arid lands, they are relied upon largely for the feed crop.

The opening ball on the new Brazos Bridge Tuesday eve was a most enjoyable affair and was well attended.  The grand structure was handsomely decorated with flag and bunting and it presented a most attractive appearance.  The evening was a most enjoyable one and the people were indebted to the Sull Ross Memorial Association for this enjoyment.  The bridge will be open for travel.

The court of criminal appeals has reversed and sent back for new trial the Jack Smith case appealed from this county.  Jack was convicted of criminal assault and given a 75 year sentence.  Among the reasons given in the opinion are that the penalty is excessive and that the trial court erred in admitting testimony of subsequent acts of defendant, in the hearing of the case.  The Bell county court granted Smith a new trial over there on motion of his attorney.  An application on a habeas corpus proceeding will be made before Judge Scott for bond for Smith and his attorneys express confidence that bail will be secured.

Help the ladies raise that fund for the park.

Marlin has reached the stage where we must help ourselves if we expect others to help us.

The democratic convention to nominate a candidate for senator from the 11th senatorial district will convene at Cameron on Friday, July 4.  Falls county's candidate Hon. J. J.
