LOCALS.

     T. O. Martin, J. M. Ozier, Geo. Roper, Will Ocker, J. C. Snead, E. A. Orchard, J. A. Tarver, W. D. Watkins, J. R. Wright and W. A. Clark were among the Rosebudites here on business this week.

     The commissioners court is in session as a board of equalization.

     Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Newbold, John Stewart, (of Houston) W. T. Price, L. B. Herron, G. C. Morris, C G. Cooley, R. L. Stallworth and Stewart Francks are on a trip to the Colorado river.

     State Superintendent Arthur Lefevre has appointed Supt. C. P. Hudson of Marlin one of the state normal examiners.

     W. A. Clark of Rosebud is in the city. Mr. Clark is probably the largest hotel man in Texas, weighing 350 lbs. 

     Editor W. L. Warrock, E. A. Orchard and W. A. Kimbrough of Rosebud came over Sunday.

     Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Fountain are visiting in Ennis. They will visit Houston and Galveston before returning.

     Major Swann was in the city Friday and Saturday from Corsicana. He had just returned from Texarkana where he accompanied Mrs. Swann on her trip to Ashville, N. C., where she will spend the summer.

     To the DEMOCRAT: - The citizens and public in general wonders why the city authorities allow the frog pond to remain at the corner and along Coleman street and the Central railway. This is a nuisance and a menace to the health of the public, and it seems that some steps should be taken to have same removed. AN OBSERVER.      

     The Lott Milling and Elevator Co. are now running full time and turning out some very fine flour and a general line of mill products. They will maintain their usual high standard and ask a portion of your trade. They are also in the market for all the wheat in this section and will pay a good price for the same. Yours very truly,

     A few nights since some young boys entered the ice house of the Marlin ice company and purloined several bottles of soda water. The trio were landed in jail to repent at their leisure.

     Mrs. Lula Robinson and children of Hot Springs are visiting Mrs. M. D. Williams, Mrs. F. M. Stallworth and Mrs. R. E. L. Tomlinson, sisters.

     Miss Harriett Somervell has returned from a visit to Waco Miss Somervell was accompanied by her cousin, Miss Blanche Knox of Giddings, who will be her guest for a while.

     Mr. R. H. Jones, a veteran citizen of Mooresville, was among Monday's visitors to Marlin. Mr. Jones is now about 80 years of age, but is hale and hearty.  He is a very pleasant old gentleman.

     Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Curry have returned from a visit to Edwards county.

     The speaking and political rally at Hammer's park east of Marlin Thursday night was attended by a number of candidates and voters. This is a new resort just four miles from town and bids fair to become a very popular place with many people.

     A meeting of the republican executive committee of this district was held in Marlin Wednesday.  Chairman D. R. Emerson presiding. The congressional convention was called to meet in Waco on July 23.  As to whether a nominee for congress will be placed in the field remains to develop.
