LOCAL NEWS.

       Assistant County Attorney Carter has resigned and Judge D. H. Boyles of Reagan, has been appointed to fill the vacancy.

       Mr. J. P. Burgess, who has been in the city several days on business, has returned to his in Montgomery county.

       The court of civil appeals has refused a motion for a new trial in the case of the H. & T. C. vs. Steve Philio from Falls county.

       C. T. Hunter received several hundred head of cattle Monday night from western Texas that he will put on feed for the markets.

       The honorable commissioner's court met Friday to canvas the return of the school trustee election held Saturday April 5th and declared the results.

       County Attorney Frank Boyles left Monday afternoon for Austin.  While there he will confer with the governor in regard to the John Roan case.

       Information comes from Waco that Judge Scott will not be an applicant for the court of civil appeals, but is supporting Judge Surratt, who is actively an applicant.

       Mr. Z. H. Wilkey of Chilton, left Marlin for Callahan county, where he will permanently reside.  Mr. Wilkey has been a citizen of Falls county for thirteen years and leaaves here a number of good friends.

       There are already a number of applicants for the vacancy on the vcourt of civil appeals bench caused by the death of Judge Collard.  Judge S. R. Scott of this judicial district is of the number and also Judge W. S. Banks of Temple.

       FOR SALE--a good cow, four years old, fresh in milk.  One mile east of court house on Kosse road.  W. W. Tyler.

       Dr. B. C. Morgan of Perry announces in this issue as a candidate for Commissioner of Precinct No. 1, subject to the action of the democratic party.

       R. L. Byrd of Cego, has qualified as justice of the peace of precinct No. 8, to which position he was recently appointed to fill vacancy caused by resignation of E. C. Smith.

       Mrs. W. T. Walker visited Marlin Saturday and Sunday.  They are at Bartlett, where Mr. Walker has charge of the business of the Southwestern Telephone Company.

       The local sportsmen were out practicing on blue rocks Tuesday afternoon.  The feature of the practice was the sensational shooting by S. A. Silverman, one of the later members.

       John J. Ward has an advertisement in the
Democrat of his art studio in the Donohoo building.  He is prepared to do photographic work on short notice and in first-class style.

       REWARD $2.50.--An English bull dog, about one year old, all white, with black nose, ears cut, the right being longer and not well trimmed.  Been gone about two weeks.  Also cut marks over one eye.  Jno. L. Bates.

       Evangelist W. P. Fife has written a letter to a friend in Marlin saying that he is having a very successful meeting at Abilene.  He recently raised a purse of $400.00 for the Zapata county sufferers.

       President Harlan, of the school board has issued his proclamation ordering an election for Saturday May 3rd, to elect three trustees.  The members whose terms expire are Trustees Curry, Rice and Dunkum.

       The city council is after solicitors.  At its meeting Monday an ordinance was passed declaring it unlawful for any person to solicit customers under certain conditions and in certain manners.  The ordinance appears in full in this issue.

       Rev. William T. Tardy, of Nacogdoches, has accepted an invitation to preach the commencement of the Marlin High School Sunday, May 18th.  Mr. Tardy is a very fluent and eloquent speaker and one of the ablest young ministers in the state.  The school is to be congratulated on securing his service for the occasion.

       Mr. F. Sheets, for two years manager of teh Hodges Dr Goods Company, has resigned and has been succeeded by Mr. D. M. Hodges of the firm.  Mr. Hodges has moved his family here and will become a citizen of Marlin.  It will be pleasant to know that Mr. and Mrs. Sheets will remain in the city for some time yet.
