Local Happenings.

       Mrs. F. S. Heffner is visiting friends in Taylor.

       L. A. Robinson went to Bryan for a few days this week.

       Constable Geo. W. Jackson of Mart was a visitor to Marlin Sunday.

       R. H. White returned to Roanoke, Va., after a visit to his friends in the city.

       Charlie Peyton left Monday night for Sherman to attend school in that city.

       W. L. Patillo and family have returned to Waco after a visit to relatives in the city.

       Miss Mamie Jones has returned to Calvert after a visit to Miss Callie Rogers.

       Miss Willie Davis has returned to her in Reagan after a visit to Mrs. B. C. Clark.

       R. J. Hunnicutt has gone to Galveston to reenter the Medical University for another term.

       Chas. E. Cloy has returned from a visit to North Texas where he spent several days' vacation.

       Will Patillo, formerly a well known citizen of Marlin, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Clark.

       Bob Dupree is from Mexico.  He will remain here a few days on business before returning.

       Mrs. M. F. Lewellyn and daughter, Miss Loma, have returned from a visit to Chilton and Lott.

       M. A. Podraza of Williamson county has moved to Falls and settled east of Marlin in the Parsons community.

       For Sale--One No. 4 Optograph, 1907 model, moving picture machine.  Will sell at a bargain.  E. W. Bounds.

       Corn is selling for 55 cents per bushel and there is a very good demand for it at that figure.  Not much coming in.

       C. A. Glover has resigned his position as telegraph operator at I. & G.N. depot and has a similar position in Fort Worth.

       Mrs. Mazee Jones and J. P. Raines who have been visiting in the city for two weeks left Monday for their in Nashville.

       There is little doing in the county court and nothing in the justice court.  The county court jury was dismissed until Wednesday.

       Strayed:  One bay horse, 14 1-2 hands high; no brand.  White spots or buggy saddle marks on back.  Tail haggled off some.  Notify Wiley Davis, Marlin, Texas, and receive suitable reward.

       H. T. Rogers has returned to Miles after a two weeks visit here.  He was accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Cam L. Fannin, who will visit her parents here.

       Mrs. A. E. Watson, accompanied by Mrs. Dick Clark, has returned from Colorado and Manitou Springs where they spent the summer.

       Hawks' famous optician will be here Sept. 26 and 27.  Examination of eyes free.

       Capt. J. W. Waters of Rosebud has been appointed a deputy game warden for Falls county by the State Game Warden.  It will be Capt. Waters duty to see that the game laws are enforced.

       J. W. Hoke has purchased the Cousins residence of W. O. Bennett, near R. L. Stallworth's store for a consideration of $1700, giving in exchange the S.J. Ward property on Capps street at $1950.

       For Rent:  200 acres land, 100 in pasture, at $1.00 per acre and will throw in the pasture.  Rev. Geo. W. Irwin, Rosebud, Texas.

       Savas Xydias renews his declaration that he will give $25 toward paving the gutters on Live Oak street, or $50 if the entire street is paved.  Who will join him in a movement of this kind?

       L. M. Bowen, county judge of Coleman county is one of the late arrivals in the city.  Judge Bowen is suffering with rheumatism and came to Marlin upon the earnest solicitation of his friends.

       Horses, mares and mules for sale.  Am in the market for corn and hay.  Call and see me at barn on Coleman street.  R.M. Mullins.

       Judge Benjamin, a well known citizen of Clinton, Mo., is on his annual visit to Marlin.  He is a great friend of this resort, saying that it beats any other that he has ever visited and he has been around some.

       The local Western Union Office is beginning to do some business now with some points heretofore in blockade.  The indications are that the strike will be ended in a short time as both sides appear to be anxious for the end.

       James S. McQuade, who was press representative for Parker Amusement Company at one time, is in the city arranging for the appearance here at an early date of "A Daughter in Judea" Company of which he is the business manager.

       G. Rosenthal of Mart came down Sunday for a visit to friends.  Rosey says Mart has received 4000 bales of cotton this season.  Presume this includes round bales, square bales and bales that were not baled!

       The alarm system of the fire department is now in running order again, Arthur Bowers of the Telephone exchange, having just completed its overhauling.  The trouble was in the electrical apparatus getting out of order.

       Sheriff M. J. Poole and Judge W. P. Dashiell went to Austin Sunday afternoon, the sheriff to look after some official business with the comptroller and the justice to visit his mother and his brother, Secretary of State Dashiell.

       E. W. Bounds has let the contract to J. A. Phipps for a residence to be erected on Houghton Avenue in the Curry subdivision.  The building will be one and a half stories and will have seven rooms.  The cost will be about $3000.

       Ed Greer is now the manager of the Commercial hotel and will be pleased to have his friends and the public generally to call around when they want a good place to stop or to get a nice meal.  The hotel has been thoroughly renovated and will be kept clean and up-to-date.

       Sam A. Ezell left Saturday night for Wharton where he will spend the winter and spring.  He has been engaged by the band at that place as instructor and teacher, the position being guaranteed him by the citizens.  The other members of the orchestra, who came with him, returned to San Antonio.
