from Austin to spend Sunday at home.

Mrs. J. B. Billingsley has returned from a

the city visiting relatives.

Marlin buyers are offering 11.25 for
cotton, but are not getting any to amount to anything.
Mrs. F. E. Hailey is attending the state
meeting of the W.C.T. U. in session at Hempstead.
J. F. Hoffman of Blue Ridge was in town
Monday arranging to leave soon for Fresno, California where he will reside.
Lee Gaarder, who has been in San Antonio
for some time, is visiting his mother and brother, Fred in Marlin.

C. U. Spawn, Crawford Keigwin and A. M.
Russell were among the visitors from Marlin to attend the Dallas Fair, Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Fannin are visiting the
Dallas fair. From there they will go to Denton to spend a few days with
Mr. Fannin's parents.

W. E. Kyser is remodeling the Whitaker
property in the northwest part of the city and will move into same when the work
is completed.

Rush, Gardner & Bartlett Co. are erecting a
new chain drop awning in front of their building. It will be one of the
most complete protectors in Central Texas.
Oltorf & Emerson, agents for the round bale
press in Marlin, are paying 12 cents for middling cotton. Farmers who want
the highest price will do well to see them before selling.
Judge G. G. Moore purchased 79 bales of
cotton from the merchants of Reagan. Says he has orders for more but that
it is hard to get.
Dr. L. Werblun, optician of San Antonio,
who makes regular visits to Marlin will be here at the Rice-Allen Infirmary
October 14 and 15. Examination of the eyes free. 38 w 2t
Mrs. N. C. Burford of Bonham and Mrs. J. M.
Ragsdale of Cleburne are visitors to Marlin. C. L. Burford, who came down
with them, returned to Bonham Monday.
Strayed: One sorrel horse mule, about
four years old, branded V B connected on left shoulder and H on jaw. Will

The threatened era of sunshine produced
smiles on the people today. The general public is fully satisfied that the
moisture "have met" and is willing to call it square.

The young man Adamik, who is charged in ten
cases with forgery, was brought to Marlin Monday and placed in jail, in default
of bond which he has not yet made.
Dorsey Dillard came in from Dallas Monday
afternoon to spend a day or two. Dorsey says all the traveling men are
looking forward to a great day Saturday, which is Commercial Travelers' day.
The local truck markets have been somewhat
off for several days. There is a
marked decline in the price of pecans and also garden truck. Chickens,
eggs and butter are in demand and at good prices.
Some speculation has been (i)ndulged as to
the trouble with the town clock this week. Dr. A. O. Bowdon was called in
today and pronounced it a clear case of dengue fever. The usual
restoratives are being applied and the old girl will be herself again in a day
or two, say the "doctor."
The negro County Institute is in session at
the school house in the south part of town. Supt. Eddins, under whose
direction these institutes are held, reported a good attendance. There are
only two teachers in the county who are not present. The new law gives the
superintendent authority to withold approval of vouchers for non attendance and
that is a great stimulator.
