LOCAL HAPPENINGS.

       Mrs. E. H. Wheelock has returned from a business visit to Wheelock.

       Gus Barry and family have returned to Houston after a vsit to relatives in this city.

-----

       Frank Clark left Friday for Midland on a visit to his brother Hunter, where he will spend the summer.

-----

       Mrs. Olin Cobb, who has been visiting her parents on the Ridge and relatives in the city, has returned to Beaumont.

-----

       W. A. Powell has resigned his position as bookkeeper for a Rosebud house for the reason that he could not get a house in which to live.  He has returned to Marlin.

       W. A. Powell, J. T. Strawn and J. F. Erskine are serving as jury commissioners of county court.  They will select jurors for the August, October, December and February terms of county court.

       One of the largest crowd of visitors that has been in the ctiy during this season is in Marlin now.  Most of the hotels and all of the boarding houses are full of guests while all of the bath houses are doing a good business.

       Miss Mary Dixie Foster and Mr. Edgar G. Goforth were united in marriage at Mart Tuesday evening, June 18, in the presence of a large audience of friends, Rev. Morrow officiating.  The bride is most pleasantly remembered in Marlin, having visited here a number of times.

       Miss Eva Nettles, instructor in Latin in the Marlin high schools, for several years, and who was recently reelected, has resigned to accept a position in Cuero.  Miss Nettles' services have been highly satisfactory to the trustees and patrons of these schools and her resignation is regretted.

       The Southwestern Telephone company is extending its local wires north of town for seven miles.  When completed many farmers will then have connection with Marlin and their names will appear in the directory as local subscribers.  Branch lines will be stretched from the main wire, so as to take in all the principal farms near Marlin.  This new service will be a great convenience to tenants, farmers and merchants.
