LOCAL HAPPENINGS.

       Dr. G. C. Graham of Waco is a visitor to Marlin.

       Mrs. W. S. Clark has returned from a visit to Waco.

       Mrs. L. R. Alexander has returned from a visit to Bryan.

       Mr. and Mrs. A. Lamb visited relatives in Dallas Sunday.

       J. W. Hamilton and W. O. Glass of Rosebud are in the city on business.

       A. Edgar Smith and "Sully" Carter are taking in the Houston Carnival.

       Judge J. B. McBryde of Bremond was here Monday afternoon on business.

       Miss Louise Hanes, of Lexington, N. C., is visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Spivey.

       Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Allen and L. E. Allen are visiting the carnival in Houston.

       Mrs. F. E. Thornton of Sulphur Springs is a visitor and a guest at the Majestic.

       Mrs. R. L. Stallworth and daughter Miss Annie, are visiting in Houston and attending the carnival.

       Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Smith have returned from Dallas where they went to visit the fair.

       Mrs. J. W. Cook and daughter, Mrs. Payne, have returned from an extended visit to points in Colorado.

       Miss Marion Clarkson has returned from a two weeks' visit to Dallas friends.

       Mrs. Pickett, who came to be with her sister, Miss Hotchkiss in her las(t) illness, has returned to her in Beaumont.

       Mrs. Foster and grandchild, who were visiting Mrs. and Miss Somervell, have returned to Waco.

       Mrs. H. C. Jones was called to Coleman to attend the funeral of her sister, Miss Katie Weathered.

       Mrs.  Wm. Schwarz and daughter of Gainesville are visitors in Marlin.  They are guests at the Arlington.

       The gallery leading to the office at the Artesia hotel has been taken off and a new one in its stead is being erected.

-----

       Herman J. Rickelman is here from Weinert, where he has resided for a year.  He will spend the winter in Old Mexico.

-----

       The McFaddin people took up 75 bales of cotton from Judge G. G. Moore here Thursday afternoon.  This is the largest lot taken at one time in Marlin in several days.

       The four months old baby of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Davidson died Saturday night.  The remains were interred in the Kosse cemetery Sunday afternoon.

       J. H. Gibson, Jr., of Calvert, spent Sunday in the city.  Johnie has been in Llano for some time, taking the cure for lung trouble and his many friends are glad to know that he is fast regaining his health.

       Miss Edith Branson has returned from several months' stay at Llano.  Her health is much improved, but she will return after spending a few weeks at home.  Mr. Branson went down to Austin Sunday to meet her.

       The automobile case of Brown vs. Mooty and McKnight, are on trial in county court.  The suit was brought to recover alleged damages sustained by a team of plaintiff's becoming frightened at defendant's automobile.  The amount asked is $930.00.

       Rev. and Mrs. M. T. Andrews, Rev. Fitzgerald and Mrs. C. D. Newbold went to San Antonio Monday to attend the Baptist general convention.  Others, also representing the Marlin church, will go down Wednesday.

       W. M. McKewen and family will move to Fort Worth to make that city their home.  W. M. will engage in the real estate business, in addition to serving as a member of the state board of barber examiners.  His friends will wish him success in his new field.

       H. W. Stringer has sold his interest in the Marlin Steam Laundry to his partner, Mr. Johnson, and just at present he is a gentleman of leisure.  Says he is not in a hurry to leave Marlin, which will be welcome information to his numerous friends.  Mr. Johnson is a practical business man and will no doubt keep the washery humming.

       G. W. Sanders, a prominent livestock and commission man of Kansas City, arrived in the city Sunday and is a guest at the Arlington.  Mr. Sanders has been prominently identified with the cattle industry for a period of twenty years.  He is a native Texan and before going to Kansas City lived at Cameron.  He has the rheumatism and at the suggestion of his son, Dr. Sanders, city health officer of Kansas City, he came to Marlin to see if he cannot be cured.

       L. E Oltorf and F. E. Hailey of Marlin and James Barton of McClanahan have been summoned to appear at Waco next Monday, along with 22 others from Central Texas, from whom the federal grand jury will be selected for the term beginning at that time and place.
