       C. W. Metcalf of Dallas is a Marlin visitor.

       Mrs. Dick Jackson has returned from a visit to San Antonio, Matamoras and Corpus Christi.

       I. N. Conyers went to Galveston Sunday night on a prospecting trip with a view of opening an export office for horses and mules in that city.

       Rev. M. T. Andrews, pastor of the First Baptist church has declined the call of the church at Lampasas, which was extended him some time since.

       Eddins & Taylor, office upstairs Donohoo building, have added a line of first class and strictly reliable fire insurance companies and will be pleased to have a share of public patronage.  All matters entrusted to them will receive prompt attention.  181-tf

       The examining trial of Sam Williams, charged with killing his wife, was set for hearing at Reagan Tuesday and Sheriff Poole and County Attorney Connally went down to attend the trial.

       C. D. Riley of Rogers, Ark., is here for a few days visit.

       J. C. May of El Paso is among the visitors to Marlin.

       Although the season is over, the hot well pavilion continues to be thronged with health visitors daily and everything, seems as natural as ever.

       Sam Williams, the negro charged with killing his wife, was re(l)eased on a bond of $750 by Justice of the Peace J. E. Davis on a preliminary hearing held Friday.

       Rev. O. T. hotchkiss has returned from Franklin where he went to attend the board of missions of the Texas conference.  He reports a pleasant and profitable meeting.

       The delegation from Mart here Thursday afternoon to inspect Marlin residences for ideas to be used in the erection of a parsonage in their town, were most agreeably impressed with the result of their visit.  Marlin has many fine residences and her public school building is the admiration of all whosee (sic) it.  Gatesville and Stephensville sent their trustees here to inspect this building and theirs are planned largely after Marlin.  We mention this that our readers may know what other people think of Marlin as a progressive town.

       Judge W. E. Rogers and Assistant County Attorney Frank Oltorf went out to Stranger Thursday to attend court.  Two misdemeanor cases were tried, the defendants being acquitted in each cases.  One of the cases was against W. T. Lewis, charged with giving whiskey to a minor and the other was a negro charged with maliciously shooting a horse.

       The convicts on the Sanger farm will be turned back to the state on Nov. 1.  Manager J. P. Hamilton says he has already leased a large part of the farm for another year and the remainder will be worked with hired labor.  The farm produces about 20,000 bushels of corn this year, which will be shelled on the farm, the cobs, shucks, etc.., being saved for consumption on the farm.

       The Sons of Hermann of the Otto, Perry and Stamp communities will give their final picnic and celebration for this season on Oct. 18.  The public is invited.  A great time is expected.

       John Rogers, a prominent farmer of Limestone county, was here today on a trading expedition.  John says that his section will make about half a crop as compared to last year, but that the people are in good shape, financially, and are not complaining at the abbreviated yield of cotton, since they get a good price.

       Mayor Peterson states that the city is anxious to secure the services of a good street cleaner to take the place of A. R. Pyle who resigned very suddenly some time since.  The subject of cleanliness is a very important one and certainly deserves attention in Marlin just at this time.
