       The Wise market and the Reeves & Kay market have been consolidated under the name of of (sic) The Marlin Market.  The proprietors are G. F. White, G. P. Reeves, F. J. Kay and J. E. Davis. Messrs (remainder can not be read-lsc)

       J. W. Mallard was in town Monday and says that his section got more rain than Marlin.  He says that he damage to the cotton will be very light.

Church Notice.

       The Rally Day services at the Methodist church had been arrange for last Sunday Oct. 6, and that were postponed on account of the very unfavorable weather, will be held next Sunday.  Arrangements are being made to make the day even more interesting than it would have been if held as previously arranged.  Let everybody take due notice of the time and plan to be present.  O. Auction Sale at Fritz Kurtz Residence

       On account of bad weather on the 5th of this month the auction sale was postponed to Oct. 19th.  Will sell all house furnishing goods and farming implements, buggies, harness, etc.  Come and get the bargains.  40w1 John Rueter, Adm'r.

       S. H. Johnson and family have returned from Tennesee where they went to attend the homecoming celebration and to visit relatives of Mrs. Johnson.  They had a most pleasant time, cspecially (sic) since it was also a family reunion of Mrs. Johnson's with her brothers and sister, the first in many years.

       The telegraph strike is practically at an end so far as Marlin is concerned.  Manager Hammons is doing business as usual, though of course, there are some places with which he cannot do business.  The situation is clearing up rapidly and the great strike will soon be a thing of the past.

       Some questions have been asked as to the tenure of the appointment of Judge Rice to the court of appeals bench.  His present appointment holds until the next election when his successor will be elected.  Judge Rice will succeed himself at that time and, it is reasonable to expect, without any opposition at all.

       Judge B. H. Rice left at 1:37 Monday for Austin to take up his duties on the court of civil appeals bench.  The court will convene Wednesday and Judge Rice goes down to arrange any preliminaries that may be necessary.  He will return in a short time to look after private business affairs before moving to Austin permanently.

       Frank Bushnell, who was manager for Rhodes-Haverty Co. when they had a house in Marlin, has returned to Calvert after a visit here.  Frank has been railroading for several years and was recently in a wreck on the Frisco.  His escape was so narrow that he decided at once to quit the service and go to farming.  He bought land near Calvert.

          Rev. O. T. Hotchkiss left Tuesday for Franklin to attend a meeting of the board of missions of the Texas conference.  They will plan for the work of the new conference year that will soon close.  The year has been one of unusual prosperity, even though money matters have been stringent.  The board will be in session two days and they will be busy days from the amount of work that is to be considered.
