WITTNER, Edwin

     Edwin Wittner, b 1877 at Cottonwood, Falls County, Texas d 1945-was a son of Antone and Pauline (Gummelt) Wittner-natives of Germany who settled in Cottonwood, Texas. Edwin married in 1900 to Emma Hirsch, b 1874, d 1944 and buried in the Cottonwood Cemetery.
Edwin and Emma Wittner moved to the Cego Community in Falls County, where they farmed and lived the remainder of their lives. They had two sons:

      Robert Wittner, b 1902, d 1963 and buried in the Cottonwood Cemetery-married Lillie Neutzler in 1925. He was a Baptist Preacher for forty-two years-serving in various churches in the State of Texas.

     Reuben Wittner, b 1905, d 1964 at Cego, Falls County, Texas-married May 31, 1928 to Lorene Shieldes, b May 28, 1909-a daughter of Roy Hugh and Matilda (Huber)Shieldes. Reuben remained on the family farm which he loved, while Lorene inherited one-fourth of her father's farm near Eddy. They lived on Reuben's farm.
      Reuben had a beautiful voice and enjoyed leading the singing at revivals and church meetings. They were active in the Cego Baptist Church, school, and community affairs. Lorene has been a consistent member of the Cego-Blevins Demonstration and continues to live on the farm since Reuben's death.
     Reuben and Lorene (Shieldes) Wittner had one son,

     Harold Earl Wittner, b September 17, 1938, who married Margaret Purvis, b January 18, 1939. Harold is a purchasing and distributing agent for Jacob-Cathey Air Conditioning Company of Waco, Texas. He and Margaret are members of the Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Waco, where he is the organist. Their children are:
     Melinda Wittner, b October 27, 1962, Keith Alan Wittner, b November 13, 1963, and Stephen Ray Wittner, b February 25, 1965.

My husband is the grandson of Edward Lee Gummelt and Sophie Gerland of Washington Co., Tx. I believe he was the brother of Pauline Gummelt. He had two known brothers, Peter and Gottlieb.
