HOMER R. SWINNEA
Homer R. Swinnea, b July 4, 1901 at Stranger Falls County, Texas, d March 29,
1970 at Reagan ; buried in Waite Cemetery there - was a twin of Oma Roy Swinnea
who died April 1, 1902 and was buried in Stranger Cemetery-was a son of Thomas
S. and Julia I. (Varnado) Swinnea of Stranger, and natives of Tennessee and
Mississippi, respectively.
Homer was married September 24, 1921 to Lucy Virginia Adams, b February 18, 1903
in Reagan, d November 30, 1983 and buried in Waite Cemetery - daughter of Robert
Pleides Orion Adams, b April 17, 1848, d December 30, 1927 in Reagan, and his
wife, Cynthia Temperance ("Tempie" Crouch) Adams, b October 28, 1879, d January
25, 1963, and both buries Waite Cemetery. Tempie was a daughter of James J.
Crouch, b ca 1857 in Falls County, d 1896, who married ca 1878 to Virginia
Mills; and a granddaughter Isaac Newton and Rachel Louise (Covington) Crouch of
Tennessee. Isaac Newton Crouch's father, Isaac Crouch, was massacred by the
Indians at Little River, Texas in June 1836. Rachel Louise (Covington) Crouch's
parents were John H. and Jane (Marlin) Covington, natives of Tennessee, who came
to the Republic of Texas (to present-day Falls County) in 1845 with Jane's
mother, Rachel Marlin, b 1765 in North Carolina - widow of William Marlin. The
Marlin sons John and James Marlin, were in Texas by 1832 and 1836, respectively,
with Sterling Clack Robertson’s Colony.
Homer R. and Lucy Virginia (Adams) Swinnea were the parents of three children:
Robert Marion Swinnea, b June 14, 1924 - married first to Patricia Ruth
Clark-daughter of Roy and Mary Margaret (Flowers) Clark, and they had five
children: Stephen David Swinnea, b December 5, 1954; Sandra Lynn Swinnea, b
December 31, 1956; Robert Marion Swinnea, Jr., b January 10, 1959; Rebecca
Swinnea, b December 28, 1960; and Joseph William Swinnea, b October 10, 1962.
Robert married second Nina Mae McBride of the Pleasant Grove Community in Falls
County, and they have two daughters: Jamie Lynn Swinnea, b January 20, 1979; and
Robin Nicole Swinnea, b November 30, 1981. Robert Marion Swinnea, Jr. (called
"Bob"), has lived in Reagan, Texas all his adult life. He was a Construction
Worker and Iron Worker until his retirement. In 1948, he worked James Odell and
Sanford Q. Garrett, Jr. - harvesting maize in Sinton, Texas near Corpus Christi.
Frances Swinnea, b October 12, 1930 - married April 9, 1950 to Ollie Mike Short
of Reagan, Texas, and they have two children: Deborah Short, b February 5, 1951
who married March 15, 1969 to Robert Price
Thigpen and had Robert Jason Thigpen, b March 16, 1972, and Michael Todd
Thigpen, b January 19, 1976
and Timothy Clay Short b December 29, 1961, who works for Thigpen Cattle
Company, and is not married.
