JAMES LEWIS STUCKEY

 

 

 

James Lewis Stuckey, b January 7, 1859 in Ala­bama, d January 12, 1934 at Lott, Falls County, Texas, and buried in Powers Chapel Cemetery ‑ was a son of Poindexter and Sarah Ann (Bailey) Stuckey. On December 9, 1886, James was married to Emma Jane Brown, b December 11, 1870 near Memphis, Tennes­see, d June 3, 1939 at Lott, and buried by her husband ‑ a daughter of Arthur Pinkney and Telitha Jane (Driver) Brown, of Tennessee and Georgia, respec­tively.

James was a Baptist minister who spent all but three years of his adult life in Falls County, Texas ‑serving as pastor of Baptist Churches at Live Oak, Pleasant Grove, Cedar Springs, and others. The family lived in Hamilton County in 1911, where they had moved to establish the Gentry Mills Baptist Church ‑ returning to live in Lott, Falls County, in 1914. His in Lott has been occupied by the family of his youngest son, Grover, since James and Emma Jane died.

James Lewis and Emma Jane (Brown) Stuckey had eleven children:

Annie Deniah Stuckey, b April 28, 1888, d November 27, 1971‑ married in December 1916 to George McClendon White, moved to Coleman, Texas, and had four children.

Denny Wiart Stuckey, b July 17, 1889, d January 16, 1975 ‑ married in January 10, 1915 to Emma Moore, moved to Houston, Texas, and had five children.

Arthur Brown Stuckey, b September 19, 1891, d May 23, 1973 ‑ married January 1, 1920 to Susan York, moved to Spur, Texas and then to Sonoma, California where they died, and had two daughters and one son.

Charles James Stuckey, b September 1, 1893 married June 15, 1921 to Nettie Eugenic Wallace, and remained in Falls County, Texas.

Lewis Stuckey, b November 4, 1895, d January 9, 1985 ‑ married on August 26, 1925 to Willie Lineberry. Lewis was licensed and ordained in Falls County by the Live Oak Baptist Church, and has pastored Baptist Churches in many cities throughout Texas.

Ruby Esther Stuckey, b October 18, 1897, d February 28, 1931 and buried in Clover Hill Cemetery at Lott ‑ married June 29, 1921 to Luther Benjamin Reaves, and stayed in Falls County, Texas.

Robert Eura Stuckey, b August 9, 1899, d September 23, 1901.

Agnes Nina Stuckey, b June 24, 1902, d August 2, 1978 in Waco, Texas, and buried at Sinton ‑ married Jesse Freeman Robertson, b March 4, 1900, d March 29, 1948 at Sinton, Texas ‑ a son of Gaines O. and

Henrietta (Miles) Robertson (both buried in Powers Chapel Cemetery in Falls County). Jesse and Nina had three children: James Oliver Robertson, b August 30, 1922 in Falls County ‑ married first to Nancy Ruth Stewart, and second to Bobbie Reed; Jesse Keith Robertson, b July 7, 1927 in Falls County ‑ married Jeanelle Linsey; and Ana Lois Robertson, b June 17, 1930 at Beeville, Texas ‑ married William Guy Henderson. After the death of Jesse Freeman Robertson, his widow, Agnes Nina (Stuckey) Robertson married second to Wade Salyer of Sinton.

Leona Stuckey, b October 1, 1904 in Falls County, d June 8, 1973 in Marlin, and buried in Clover Hill Cemetery at Lott ‑ married November 9, 1935 to Robert E. Ruble, b February 17, 1879, d January 27, 1974 in Marlin, and buried in Clover Hill Cemetery at Lott. When Leona married Robert, he was a widower, who had five children by his first wife, whose maiden name was "McCreary." Robert was a successful businessman in Lott, and owned a large farm. He was a Deacon in the First Baptist Church at Lott.

Lee Roy Stuckey, b April 17, 1907 ‑ married July 28, 1940 to Pauline Stewart. He is a Baptist minister, licensed to preach by the Little Deer Creek Baptist Church, and ordained by the Lone Star Baptist Church. He served as pastor at New Salem, and then moved to west Texas. He preached and worked at the State Hospital in Abilene. Roy and Pauline had two children.

Grover Pinkney Stuckey, b September 25, 1911 in Hamilton County, Texas, d April 2, 1979 ‑ married June 6, 1932 at Lott to Ione Maurine Gibbs, b August 14, 1914 in Falls County, Texas - a daughter of  John Morris and Pearl (Porter) Gibbs.
