WILLIAM ARCHER PRICE, SR

 

 

     William Archer Price, Sr., b November 28,1884 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas, d June 25,1967 in Marlin and buried in Stranger Cemetery - was the only surviving son of William Thomas and Margaret Jane (Busby) Price, natives of Tennessee and Kentucky, respectively.

     "Bill" lived at Stranger his entire life, attending the school there; in 1905 received a degree in agriculture from Texas A&M College where he was Captain of Company "B". He continued as an instructor until 1908 when he returned to Stranger to operate the family farm.

On November 27, 1912 in Marlin, he was married to Lula A. Hughey, b December 15, 1887 in Lee County, Arkansas, d      November 27, 1961 and buried in the Stranger Cemetery, a daughter of Edward Bryson Hughey, b September 23, 1859 and Indiana Tennessee (McKnight) Hughey, b October 28, 1956, natives of Tennessee. Lula's mother died September 13, 1895 and is buried in Athens, Alabama, and her father d February 28, 1904 and is buried in Calvery Cemetery in Marlin, Texas.

     The couple lived in the Price where he was born, and his mother continued to make her there until her death in 1939.

     Bill served as a School Trustee, as Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher in the Methodist - Presbyterian Union Church at Stranger - having been reared in the Methodist faith. Rain or shine, sleet or snow, Bill Price could be depended on to transport the neighborhood children to Sunday School, and to have the church building as comfortable as possible. He also participated in all community affairs.

     Bill and Lula had two children, who have returned to the place to live on their respective shares of the estate since the property was divided.

     Their two children are:

     William Archer Price, Jr., b October 18, 1914 at Stranger and Marion Jean Price, b August 17, 1920, who married George Steven Garrison.
