JOHN HAMILTON PRICE

 

 

     John Hamilton Price, b August 19, 1809 in North Carolina, d August 22, 1878 and buried in Stranger Cemetery, Falls County, Texas - was a son of James Price, b July 12,1778 in Mecklenberg County, North Carolina, and his wife, Mary Dunlap (Howe) Price, b 1783 in South Carolina. James Price moved his family to Giles County, Tennessee about 1812, where he died June 6, 1817. Mary Dunlap (Howe) Price moved from Tennessee with her son James Howe Price, to Montgomery County, Texas before 1850, and they remained in that area.

     John Hamilton Price married in Tennessee on September 15, 1830 to Adeline R. Henry, b March 18, 1812, d July 31, 1878, daughter of George R. and Martha (Price) Henry. About 1853 John Hamilton Price moved his family to Texas - settling in the Blue Ridge-Stranger Community, on land purchased from W. S. Hunnicutt. The 1860 Slave Census listed him as a taxpayer for nine slaves. He belonged to the Marlin Chapter of Masons until 1867, and was a member of the Methodist Church - placing his membership in the Methodist-Presbyterian Union Church at Stranger when it was organized in 1869. John Hamilton and Adeline R. (Henry) Price were the parents of nine children:

     James A. Price, b September 14, 1831, d February 19, 1882 and buried in Stranger Cemetery. He did not marry.

     Mary Martha Price, b April 2, 1833, d August 9, 1888 and buried in Stranger Cemetery. She did not marry.

     Isaac Newton Price, b September 7, 1834, d August 22, 1869 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas - married in Falls County on September 13, 1865 to Mary Elizabeth Morris, b 1840 in North Carolina, d 1924 and buried next to her husband, she was a daughter of Henry and Mary Morris. Isaac was a Lieutenant in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. He and Mary Elizabeth (called "Betty") had two daughters: Kate Price, b 1867, d 1886 - married Charles E. Pringle and died in childbirth; and Bettie Price, b 1869, d 1953 - married W. P. Dashiell, Jr., b 1864, d 1917, and had Ruby R. Dashiell, b 1894, d 1895, and Pearl Dashiell, b 1894, d 1986 who married James F. Henderson, b 1893, d 1958 and buried in Calvary Cemetery. Isaac Newton Price's cause of death was listed as "black jaundice."

     George R. Price, b November 24, 1836, d October 24, 1906 - never married. He lived with his brother, William Thomas Price and is buried in Stranger Cemetery.

     John Henry Price, b June 3, 1838, d February 22, 1870 and buried in Stranger Cemetery.

Esther Rebecca Price, b February 16, 1840, d 1927 -married in 1860 to John Lloyd, and moved to Taylor, Texas.

     William Thomas Price, b March 10, 1842, d June 4, 1917 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas and buried there - married in 1867 to Margaret Jane Busby - a daughter of David T. and Martha (Sweeny) Busby.

     Benjamin Franklin Price, b June 17, 1843, d December 30, 1847.

     Ann Macklin Price, b April 9, 1849, d June 6, 1855.

     Adeline R. (Henry) Price died July 31, 1878 and was buried next to her husband in Stranger Cemetery.
