SAMUEL LOUIS PARSONS

 

 

     Samuel Louis Parsons, b September 15, 1848 in Louisiana, d August 25, 1926 and buried in Taylor Chapel Cemetery, Falls County, Texas - was the only son of two children of David and Rachel (Richey) Par- sons, b May 19, 1832 in Jefferson County, Alabama, d 1904 in Falls County and buried in Taylor Chapel Cemetery, who were married in Sabine Parish, Louisiana on November 8, 1846. Samuel's paternal grand- parents were E. B. Parsons, b 1791 in Georgia, dafter 1850 in Rusk County, Texas, and his wife, Mary (Brown) Parsons, who were married in Jasper County, Georgia on January 28, 1815. Mary was in Falls County in 1860 with another son, Samuel L. Parsons. The maternal grandparents of Samuel Louis Parsons were Daniel Boone Richey, b 1797 in South Carolina, d September 16, 1861 in Falls County, and his wife, Sarah (Brown) Richey, b 1810 in Georgia, d September 15,1871 in Falls County.

     The Parsons and Richey families moved from Louisiana to Rusk County, Texas before 1850 - coming to Falls County after 1852. Samuel Louis' father, David, died before 1850 - leaving Rachel with her son and a daughter, Mary Parsons, b 1849. Rachel (Richey) Par- sons was married second on July 15, 1852 in Rusk County to John Maines, and had several issue by him in Falls County.

     On June 19, 1878 in Falls County, Texas, Samuel Louis Parsons was married to Mary Jane Taylor, b December 7,1861 near Deer Creek, Falls County, Texas, d July 30, 1948 at Taylor Chapel- a daughter of James Monroe and Sarah Evelyn (Shives) Taylor.

     The couple reared ten of twelve children to adulthood. They engaged in farming all their married lives. Their children were:

     James T. Parsons, b February 25,1880, d June 11, 1968 - married first to Elizabeth Beasley, who died in 1915. They had three children: Ed Parsons, Ruth Par- sons, and J. T. Parsons. He married second on September 30, 1917 to Julia Patterson, and had five children: Louis Parsons, Irene Parsons, Dorothy Parsons, Charles Lloyd, and Tommy Parsons.

     Beulah Ann Parsons, b July 7, 1884, d July 28, 1969 in Ladonia, Texas - married ca 1904 to John Roark, b February 10, 1871, d August 19, 1939 at Ladonia, Texas. They had Walter Roark, and Ruby Roark.

Rachel Parsons, b February 27, 1886, d September 28,1972 - married January 25,1903 to James Casey, b December 16, 1877, d April 18, 1965 and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery at Marlin. They reared seven of nine children: Fred Casey, Tom Casey, Beulah Casey, Arthur Casey, Jewel Casey, Henry Casey, and Fern Casey.

     John Parsons, b May 2, 1888, d December 16, 1940 and buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Waco - married Frankie Woodall, d 1971 in Waco. They had nine children: A. C., Nick, John Jr., Samuel, Morris, Frank, Orphia, Bessie, and Vernell Parsons.

     William T. Parsons, b March 7,1891, d January 18, 1958 and buried in Calvary Cemetery - married September 7, 1913 to Mittie Meeks, b October 13, 1892, d June 6,1963 and buried in Calvary Cemetery. They reared six children: Durwood Parsons, Douglas Par- sons; L. Flewellan, b August 10, 1918 - married Virginia Bates and had Larry Parsons who married Vicki Chalmers, and had Yancy and Cinnamon Parsons; June Parsons, Myrna Parsons, and Williford Parsons.

     Robert E. Lee Parsons, b November 26, 1893, d December 26, 1961 and buried in Calvary Cemetery- married July 29, 1917 to Minnie Casey, and married second to Della Patterson, b October 4, 1903, d August 7,1971 and buried in Calvary Cemetery. Robert had three children: Mozelle Parsons, b March 9, 1918 who married first to Melvin Glidewell and married second to Alamo Nixon; George Parsons, b June 30, 1921-no information; and Mildred Parsons, b September 10, 1922, who married Mack Bowers.

     Christopher Columbus Parsons, b March 8, 1896, d July 11,1962 and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery-married Marian Springfield and had issue.

Josephine Parsons, b March 16, 1898, d May 6, 1946 and buried in Calvary Cemetery - married Leland Moore, b March 7, 1886, d June 10, 1941 and buried in Calvary Cemetery. They had Mary Catherine Moore, b October 19, 1921, d December 23, 1953 in an automobile wreck, who married Louis Reichle and had Gary Reichle and Randy Reichle; Leland Andrew Moore, b October 31, 1930 who married Jeanette Red- knap and had Andrew Moore, Lisa Moore, and Sally Moore.

     Elizabeth Parsons, b August 13, 1901, d July 23, 1980 and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery - married in 1923 to James Neumann Walton. They had James N. Walton, Jr., b September 24,1924 who married in 1947 to Betty Rose Robinson, and had Elizabeth ("Betsy") Walton, and James Walton, and reside in Brady, Texas; and Billy Walton, b ca 1927 who married and had Elizabeth Walton, Billy Walton, Jack Walton, and Tom Walton.

     Amelia Parsons, b March 9, 1904, d September 3, 1986 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin- married September 1, 1923 to Jack Loggins, b August 27, 1900 at Lott, d September 19, 1975 and buried in Calvary Cemetery - a son of James Carter and Martha Jane ("Mattie" Sowders) Loggins. They had: Hazel Loggins, b September 8, 1924 who married George Terrell Meece, and had Jack Meece, Judy Meece, Carolyn Meece, and Tommy Meece - and then Hazel (Parsons) Loggins married second to George Foster and had Peggy Foster and Sue Foster; and Billy Loggins, who married and had Sherry Loggins, Linda Loggins, Mary Ann Loggins, and Mike Loggins.

     Samuel and Mary Jane Parsons had thirteen grandsons in World War II, and five grandsons-in-law. Melvin Glidewell, who married Mozelle - daughter of Robert and Della (Patterson) Parsons, was killed in action in Germanv on October 12. 1944.
