James B. Oltorf

James B. Oltorf, b May 2, 1903, d November 1, 1954, in Marlin and buried there in Calvary Cemetery -- was a son of Charles Archer and Susan (Battle) Oltorf, pioneer families of Falls County, Texas.
Mr. Oltorf graduated form Marlin High School, attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and was a lifetime farmer and rancher.
On February 20, 1941, James B. Oltorf married Lena Dillard, b in Reagan, Falls County, Texas -- a daughter of Edward Howard and Frankie (Waite) Dillard, whose parents came from De Soto County, Louisiana and Scott County, Mississippi, respectively, after the Civil War. Lena's maternal grandmother was Mary Powers -- the daughter of Republic of Texas pioneers, Francis Marion and Elizabeth Penelope (Curry) Powers -- who lived in the Reagan Community, and are buried in Waite Cemetery.
James and Lena Oltorf were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Marlin. Lena was a career schoolteacher of Elementary Education in the Marlin Independent School District, until her retirement. Later, she accepted the position as Principal of St. Hohn's Episcopal Church School, until a second retirement. She continued to own and manage a farm that her husband owned. In recent years, she has sold her in Marlin, moving to Waco, Texas to be near her daughter.
James B. and Lena (Dillard) Oltorf were the parents to two children:
Charles Edward Oltorf, M.D. b ca 1942 in Marlin -- married Bettie Jones, daughter of Walton and Mary Frances (Robinson) Jones -- natives of Marlin. They live in Temple -- both serving on the staff of Scott & White Hospital.
Mary Oltorf, b ca 1944 in Marlin -- married John Dietz, of Waco, Texas. John is in business with his father -- owners of Dietz Monument Company. The couple have a daughter and a son.
