Charles Oakes, b 1795 in Virginia, d 1847 in Texas -- moved as a young man to Tennessee, where he married in 1822 to Susan Neal, b there in 1801, d 1854 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas while visiting a son. In 1845, Charles and Susan moved from Tennessee to Texas -- locating in the area which later became Falls County. They had nine children -- all born in Tennessee.
Elizabeth ("Bettie") Oakes, b ca 1825 -- married first ca 1847 to Richard Albert Barton, b 1820 in Tennessee, d 1851, and had two identified children: Robert Joshua Barton, b 1848, and Susan Barton, b ca 1849. She married second to Samuel Barnes.
Fredonia Oakes, b ca 1827 -- married first to a Mr. Jackson and had Milton Jackson; married second in 1847 to David G. Barton.
William E. Oakes, b 1829, d 1870 -- married Eleanor Turney, who married after his death to John Clark.
Robert Allen Oakes, b April 11, 1831, d May 3, 1923, -- married first in 1854 to Mary Helen Ward; married second to Mrs. Leone (Smith) Kinley.
Mary Oakes, b ca 1833, d before 1870 -- married William M. Reed.
America Oakes, b 1835, died before 1870 -- married James Capps and had four children.
Sarah Oakes, b August 29, 1839, d February 13, 1885, -- married Thomas Dudley Reed.
Charles Houston Oakes, b ca 1840, d in Bosque County, Texas -- married "Lizzie" Page and had Robert, Dollie, Nettie, Dona, and Minn.
Francis Marion Oakes, b 1842 or 1843, served throughout the Civil War in the Confederate States Army, and went with Captain Willis Lang's company to Val Verde, New Mexico -- married Luvenna (maiden name unknown), b February 1845, d August 1869 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas. No further information.
After the death of Charles, his widow, Susan (Neal) Oakes made her in Waco, McLennan County, Texas, where she has purchased 320 acres of land and built her home. It has been reported that part of her land is where Baylor University is now located.
