WILLIAM THOMAS NORWOOD

 

 

     William Thomas Norwood, b November 3, 1864 in Falls County, Texas, d September 13, 1935 in Marlin and buried there in Calvary Cemetery - was the fourth child of John W. and Adaline (Moore) Norwood, pioneer settlers of Falls County.

     William grew up on the family farm about three miles north of Marlin. On December 17, 1890, he was married to Kate Agnes McBryde, b August 14, 1869 in Robertson County, Texas, d May 4, 1943 in Marlin and buried in Calvary Cemetery - a daughter of Malcolm and Margaret (Wilkerson) McBryde.

     For many years, "Will" was manager of the Levy arm on the Brazos River, and had to swim out during very bad flood. Later, Will and Kate bought some property on Walker Street in Marlin, which had three houses located on it. They lived in the middle house, built a store and filling station, and rented out the other two houses. They planted many trees, and an orchard. The children were reared in the Presbyterian Church.

     William Thomas and Kate Agnes (McBryde) Norwood were the parents of seven children:

     Blanche Adaline Norwood, b January 9,1892 in Falls County, Texas - married March 23, 1918 to James Wimbish Williams, Jr.

     Robert Charles Norwood, b February 24, 1894 in Falls County, Texas, d March 19, 1958 in Marlin - married February 3, 1916 to Annie Verrena Vinson.

     Joseph Malcolm Norwood, b March 13, 1897 in Falls County, Texas, d January 18, 1973 - married Bessie Brown.

     Katy Lee Norwood, b March 5, 1900 in Falls County, Texas - married June 15, 1924 to William Lee Ivy, and moved to Baird, Texas.

     Lily May Norwood, b May 6,1903 in Falls County, Texas - married Vernon Pinson.

     Jack William Norwood, b January 30, 1905, d December 25, 1963 - married Norma Ball.

     Juanita Norwood, b August 30, 1911- married Thomas LaFayette Goode. William Thomas and Kate Norwood spent their entire married lives in Falls County, and still have many descendants in Marlin, and elsewhere.
