HENRY MORRIS

 

Henry Morris, b March 3, 1804 in North Carolina, d August 30, 1877 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Falls County, Texas‑was married ca 1827 to Mary Peay Leak, b 1808 in North Carolina, date of death not known. They lived in Tennessee for many years, but were in Falls County, Texas by 1854, when Henry first purchased land there, on which he farmed.

Henry and Mary (Leak) Morris were the parents of seven known children:

Melissa A. Morris, b May 23, 1830 in Tennessee, d January 14, 1900 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin‑married January 31, 1860 in Falls County to William H. Kimbrough, b November 23, 1825 in Georgia, d November 3, 1901, who served in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. Their children were: Willie A. Kimbrough‑a daughter, b ca 1861 in Texas; Walter P. Kimbrough, b March 29, 1866, d October 17, 1880 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin; Warren Kimbrough, b 1867; and Keturah Kimbrough,b February 1870.

John R. Morris, b 1832 in Tennessee ‑ married February 20, 1870 in Falls County, Texas to Emily Alice Hardy, b 1850 in Arkansas. He was a merchant in Marlin‑owning property North of the Square.

Wade Hampton Morris, b 1837 in Tennessee served in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War.

Mary Elizabeth Morris (called "Betty"), b 1840 in Tennessee, d 1924 in Marlin and buried there in Calvary Cemetery‑married on September 13, 1865 in Falls County, Texas by Cumberland Presbyterian Minister, A. J. Loughridge, to Isaac Newton Price, b 1835 in Tennessee, d August 1869 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin ‑ a son of John Hamilton and Adeline (Henry) Price. The cause of his death was listed as "Black Jaundice." He served as a Second Lieutenant in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. They had two daughters: Katie A. Price, b 1867 in Falls County, Texas, d 1886‑who married in 1885 to Charles E. Pringle; and Elizabeth Price (called "Bettie"), b 1869, d 1953 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas‑who married ca 1893 to W. P. Dashiell, Jr., b 1864, d 1917 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, and had twin daughters, Ruby Dashiell, b 1894, d 1895, and Pearl Dashiell, b 1894, d 1986, who married James F. Henderson, b 1893, d 1958 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin ‑ having had a son, James F. Henderson, Jr.

Aaron Polk Morris, b May 23, 1843 in Tennessee, died on or about August 11, 1925 ‑ married 1866 in Falls County, Texas to Martha L. Sites, b October 7, 1847 in Amite County, Mississippi, d February 25, 1894. They had nine children, but the first two and last three have not been identified by name: Child Morris, b 1867, Child Morris, b 1870; Claude Morris, b 1872moved to Rosebud, Texas; Bertha Morris, b 1874 married Lee Anderson; Mary Morris, 6 1876‑married Quincy Barnes; Leonard Morris (called "Len"), date of birth unknown‑married Leta (maiden name unknown); and the last three unknown as to names and dates of birth.

Isadora Morris, b 1846 in Tennessee – married 1866 to George H. Perkins, b ca 1844 in Virginia, and had Henry P. Perkins, b 1867 in Falls County, Texas.

Tippo Morris, b 1852 in Tennessee‑was residing in Falls County in the of his parents when the 1870 Census was recorded. No further information.
