Lafayette migrated with his family to Grimes County, Texas sometime in the early part of 1871.  His father Jessie Long sold 160 acres of land in Carroll County, Mississippi to George W. Wiggins on 24 December 1870, so it can be fairly accurate to say they migrated immediately after selling the land.

Lafayette King Long married Margaret Lee Whitfield, January 16, 1877, in Grimes County, Texas.  Margaret was born 1859 in Madison Tennessee and died 1899 in Alderson, Grimes County, Texas.  This union produced five children.

            Unknown Long (F) b Abt. 1883, d Unknown

Bessie Ethel Long, b 15 October 1886 in Anderson, Grimes County Texas, died 19 April 1966 in Houston Texas.  Interred at Woodlawn Cemetery, Rosebud, Texas next to her husband Robert Lafayette Howard.  Bessie married Robert Lafayette Howard in Cameron, Milam County Texas, September 22, 1902.

Thelma Long, b 24 March 1888 in Anderson, Grimes County, Texas and died November 1983, in Houston Texas.  Thelma married Pete Bubela in Falls County, Texas.  No issue were produced.  Thelma and Pete Bubela owned and run a grocery store in Rosebud, Texas from the thirties to late 1960/70.

After the death of his first wife, Margaret Whitfield, oral history indicates that Lafayette may have had a extremely difficult time in caring for his young children.  Lafayette met and married Cora Bell Garrell (maiden name unknown).  Cora Bell was b August 15, 1869 in Mississippi, died December 11, 1960, in Rosebud, Texas.  She is interred at Woodlawn Cemetery, Rosebud, with her husband. This marriage produces seven children, Horace, Purvis, Author, Bryon, Mary, Martha and Willard.  Cora was stepmother to Emmett, Maggie, Bessie and Thelma.  Two children from Lafayette first marriage died in early childhood from Diptheria.  Cora bell  had two children in her first marriage, Claude and Frank Garrell.
