William Pinkney Kirkpatrick was born 1830 in Abbeville, South Carolina, and died February 9, 1895 in Hill County, Texas.  He came to Texas in 1849 with his father, William Hawthorne Kirkpatrick, two brothers and three sisters.  They left South Carolina in 1846 but had to stay in Arkansas for a few years because of extremely wet weather. The mother, Katherine Obedience Jones Kirkpatrick was died after 1840 and before 1846.

In 1846, the family settled at Bynum Creek in the part of Navarro County that became Hill County in 1853.  A short time later the Kirkpatrick family went to Washington County, Texas, where William Hawthorne met an old friend from South Carolina, Robert M. Moore.

May 18, 1853, William Pinkney married Mary Ellen Moore in Brenham, Washington County, Texas.  She was the daughter of Robert M. Moore and Marguerite Wiley Moore. These families all moved to Falls County around 1853.  The area where settled was named Mooreville for the Moore family.

William Pinkney and Mary Ellen had six children:

George William Kirkpatrick, born 1853.  He died at age seven in Hill County.

Margaret Obedience Allen Kirkpatrick, born 1854 in Falls County.  She married Lewis Martin in Chilton, Texas.  She died in 1878.

Theodosia (Tinsey) Kirkpatrick, born 1860.  She married Robert D. Smith.

Mary Ellen either died or she and William Pinkney separated in 1860.  He is on the 1860 Hill County census living with his father, William Hawthorne and his f amily.  Also, with him on the census were four of his  six children.  The two youngest were evidently with Mary Ellen or her parents in Falls County.

After 1861 and before 1867, William Pinkney married Sarah (?).  William Pinkney served  3 year and 7 months in Company D, 19th Texas Cavalry, Parson’s Brigade in the Civil War.

William Pinkney and Sarah had five children :

Martha (Mittie) Kirkpatrick, born December 1, 1867.  She married Aaron H. Cox.

William Addison (Buck) Kirkpatrick, born 1828 in Falls County.  He married first, Rosa Poore, second, Nancy Thomas.  He died May 20, 1939.

James Kirkpatrick, born 1870.  He was killed in Bosque County, Texas.
