ERNEST P. KAULFUS

 

 

     Ernest P. Kaulfus, b May 25,1891, d July 27,1975 in Temple, Texas and buried in the Pieper Family Plot in the Barclay Cemetery, Falls County, Texas - was a son of Ed and Augusta (Eisman) Kaulfus, Sr. On November 2,1911 in a double wedding ceremony in Rose- bud, Texas, Ernest married Lena Margaret Kasner, b June 11, 1891 in Barclay, Texas, d April 19, 1931 in Rowena, Texas and buried in Barclay Cemetery - a daughter of Albert Rudolph and Lena M. (Pieper) Kasner. Ernest and Lena had five children:

     Selma Katherine Kaulfus, b August 2, 1912 in Rosebud, Texas - married November 14, 1931 to Harold Henry Uhlhorn.

     Edward A. Kaulfus, b May 31, 1914 in Rosebud- married November 6, 1935 to Alice Kosel.

     Helen Ida Kaulfus, b January 30, 1917 in Rosebud t - married December 24, 1938 to Aubrey Andrews.

     Elizabeth Kaulfus, b July 24, 1919 in Rosebud, d July 27, 1919.

     Ernest B. Kaulfus, b February 24, 1924 in Rosebud - married in 1946 to Billie McCorkille, who died l in 1948; and married second in 1949 to Thea Hansch.

     Lena began school in Barclay, and completed at the Kasner School. She was baptized in the Lutheran Faith by Reverend William Mueller, a traveling pastor from Giddings, Texas. Ernest and Lena were cotton and corn farmers on the Kasner farm, and were members of the Lutheran Church. Lena suffered with asthma, and in 1917 they moved to Corpus Christi for about six months - returning to Rosebud, where they lived until 1920 when they moved to Runnels County, Texas, bought a 120-acre farm four miles south of Rowena, Texas - raising cotton and maize crops. In the spring of 1931,  Lena and her family were enroute to f Rosebud to visit her sister, Ida Kasner, who was very ill. They had a car wreck near Bangs, Texas, and Lena sustained internal injuries from which she never recovered.
