JOHN D. JONES

     John D. Jones, born August 24, 1865 in Bee County, Texas, was the eldest son of James and Harriet (Williams) Jones. In addition to his common-school education, he studied a year at the State Normal at Huntsville.

     In 1883 in Madison County, Texas, John D. Jones married Effie Viser - a daughter of William W. and Amanda Viser, and they had six known children by 1892: James V., Herbert C., Stella, John H., Arthur C., and Effie.

     John D. Jones started a drug and grocery store in 1885 at Mooreville. He was Worshipful Master of

Mooreville Lodge No 639, A.F. & A.M., and was appointed by President Cleveland in October 1886 as postmaster at Mooreville, and reappointed in June 1892.
