JAMES JONES

 

 

SURNAMES: JONES, MORRIS, WILLIAMS, WAFFORD, MONTGOMERY, ADAIR.

 

        James Jones, son of Ransopher Heywood and Cassandra (Morris) Jones, was b January 23, 1841 in Louisiana, d August 10, 1911 at Mooreville, Falls County, Texas. He was brought to Texas by his parents in 1855, settling in Mooreville in 1866.

        On August 22, 1861 in Bee County, Texas, James married Harriet Williams, b October 21, 1839 in Mississippi, d January 3, 1919 - a daughter of Henderson and Emily (Wafford) Williams, natives of Alabama and Mississippi. James and Harriet Jones had nine children: John D. Jones became a druggist and postmaster at Mooreville; Ransopher H. Jones II attended Tulane Medical School in Louisiana; James T. Jones became a farmer in Falls County; Allean Jones, b August 1, 1871, d May 22, 1962 - married a Montgomery; Hardy Rufus Jones, b January 23, 1873, d July 13, 1934; Charles P. Jones; William T. Jones; Emily Jones, and Carrie Jones, b July 7, 1881, d October 25, 1980, married Robert Fulton Adair, b December 13,1866, d January 11,1957.

       James and Harriet Jones were members of the Methodist Church, and James was a Master Mason and Treasurer of the Mooreville Lodge #639, A.F. & A.M. He was postmaster at Mooreville in 1885, and again in 1902.

       James and Harriet (Williams) Jones are buried in Mooreville Cemetery.
