JAMES SANFORD HAYES

 

 

     James Sanford Hayes, b May 2,1848 in Tennessee, d August 11, 1909 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Falls County, Texas - married ca 1868 in Tennessee to Sarah Reed, b November 18, 1851 in Tennessee, d November 14, 1931 and buried by her husband in Calvary Cemetery. James and Sarah moved to Falls County, Texas from Giles County, Tennessee in 1886, and settled in the Stranger Community. They had twelve children - order of birth unknown:

     Thomas Leslie Hayes, b August 21, 1870 in Giles County, Tennessee, d August 20, 1954 - married Edna Arnett. .

     Reed L. Hayes, b ca 1872 - married and moved to Galveston, Texas. No further information.

     Mary Lena Hayes, b March 21, 1874 in Giles County, Tennessee, d June 24, 1948 in Tucumcari, New Mexico - married November 21, 1891 at Stranger to Thomas Jasper Erskine - son of William Richards and Mary Elizabeth (Garrett) Erskine.

     Lydia B. Hayes, b June 21, 1876, d August 2, 1967 - married James M. Arnett, b November 22,1868, d March 17, 1934 and both buried in Calvary Cemetery.

     Hattie Hayes - married December 2, 1900 in Falls County, Texas to Charles Houston Varnado, b March 1879 - son of Cornelius Willington and Mary 8::lizabeth ("Bettie" Ratliff) Varnado.

     Eunice Hayes, b August 12, 1883, d October 17, L944 - married Charles B. Eskridge, b August 30, 1880, d April 29, 1966 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin. They had Clifton, Charles Sanford, and Mary Beth Eskridge.

     Lula Hayes - married April 17, 1897 in Falls County, Texas to W. E. Montague, and moved first to Rockdale, and then to Austin, Texas. They are known to have had a son, Rodney Montague. No other information.

     Willie Hayes - married at age 17 years on July 19, 1896 in Falls County, Texas to William Franklin Fannin - son of William Thomas and Mary Minerva (Varnado) Fannin.

     Leonard H. Hayes, b November 8, 1885, d August 15,1922 - married Esther E. (maiden surname unknown), b November 7, 1889, d September 6, 1925 and both buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin.

     Roy Hayes, b October 31, 1889 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas, d December 20, 1901 and buried in Stranger Cemetery.

     Infant Son Hayes, band d - tombstone shows no dates - buried in Stranger Cemetery.

     Infant Daughter Hayes, band d - tombstone shows no dates - buried in Stranger Cemetery.
