LOUIE FREDERICK HACKEL

 

 

     Louie Frederick Hackel, b ca 1910 - was a 1926 graduate of Marlin High School, and a son of Peter Frank and Viola Elizabeth (Davidson) Hackel who came to Marlin from Corsicana in 1906 with their five children.

     Prior to moving to Marlin, Peter Frank and Viola Elizabeth Hackel made a trip through Marlin, and when they saw the old elementary school building, they were so impressed that they made plans to move to Marlin to make their and rear and educate their children.

     When Louie's brother, Frank, established the Hackel Motor Company in 1932, Louie became associated with it as owner and operator of the service station connected with the business. In 1949, when Frank expanded the business by moving to large quarters and the service station discontinued, Louie became manager of the Parts and Service Department, and he and another brother, Leroy, joined the Hackel Motor Company as partners. Hackel Motor Company was the dealer for Chrysler, Plymouth, and Dodge automobiles, Dodge trucks, and Oliver tractors. When the business was sold August 8,1968 to Ralph James and Dick Gordon Garrett, Louie continued as manager of the Parts and Service Department for the Garrett Motor Company until his retirement in January 1973.

     On June 11, 1939 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas, Louie Fredrick Hackel was married to Martell Lake Hunt, of Klondike. At the time of their marriage, Martell was teaching first grade in the Marlin Independent School District, and she retired in May 1974, after a teaching career in Marlin of Thirty-five years.

     Louie Fredrick Hackel attended the University of Texas in Austin after his graduation from Marlin High School; a member of the First Baptist Church, and the Masonic Lodge. He and Martell were the parents of one daughter:

     Pamela Beth Hackel, who married Douglas Ward, and had two daughters: Laura Beth Ward, and Angela Lynn Ward. The family resides in DeSoto, Texas.
