THOMAS ELDON GOODRICH, SR.

 

 

     Thomas Eldon Goodrich, b September 1892 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas, d 1963 Dallas, Texas - was one often children of Judge Levi Wolcott and Alice (Battle) Goodrich, prominent citizens of Marlin. Thomas was buried in Dallas.

     Thomas Eldon was married first to Onie Reed - a daughter of Lucien Reed, who was born and died in Bryan, Texas - was a farmer, owner of a general store, and operator of several gins. Lucien Reed had a brother, Frank Reed, who became a professional gambler, and was shot and killed in Bryan. Lucien Reed had married Inez Hammean when she was only fifteen years of age - a daughter of Albert Hammean, native of Germany, and his wife, Sara (Christian) Hammean, a native of Bryan, Texas. After Lucien Reed died in Bryan, his widow, Inez (Hammean) Reed, moved to Marlin with their six children: Onie, John Hammean, Lillie, Inez, May, and Joseph Reed.

     Thomas and Onie (Reed) Goodrich had one son, Thomas Eldon Goodrich, Jr., b May 16, 1920, who was a graduate of Marlin High School, and earned his degree in pharmacy from The University of Texas School of Pharmacy in Austin, Texas. He was a navigator with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and returned to Marlin after the war.

     On March 2, 1946, Thomas Eldon Goodrich, Jr. was married to Elizabeth Brown, b February 22, 1924 - the eldest of four children of Deese and Verna (McElveen) Brown, natives of Georgia, whose families  were from England and Scotland, respectively. Thomas Eldon, Jr. became a partner in the Sanitarium Drug Store in the former Allen Drug Store Building, with Mr. Shelton. When the partnership was dissolved, each entered business for himself. Goodrich's New Sanitarium Drug Store is located near the Falls Hotel, in Marlin. Thomas, Jr. and Elizabeth had two children: Laura Ann Goodrich, b September 26, 1948, who married William Randall Sitton - a Major in the U.S. Air Force, and their son is Christopher Andrew Sitton, b November 26, 1973; and Thomas Eldon Goodrich, III, b February 26, 1953, who married August 23, 1975 to Kay Murphy, and have one daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Goodrich, b February 20, 1985. Thomas Eldon Goodrich, III received his

Pharmacy Degree in December 1975 from The University of Texas School of Pharmacy, Austin, Texas, and is in business with his father.

     Thomas Eldon Goodrich, Sr. moved to Dallas, Texas, where he sold automobiles, married second to Virginia (maiden name unknown), and had two sons: Robert G. Goodrich, and Albert Dickey Goodrich. No further information on these children.

     Onie (Reed) Goodrich was married second to Hardy Prince Curry, Jr. - a son of Hardy Prince and Dyadema Elizabeth (Gary) Curry. When Onie died, she was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, by her second husband.
