HUGO BERNARD GLASS

Hugo Bernard Glass (called "H. B."), b May 5, 1887 in Barclay, Falls County, Texas - was the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Schneider) Glass. His family lived in Falls County until 1900, when they moved to Haskel County, and subsequently to Ballinger, Texas. When World War I began, H. B.'s two younger brothers, Otto and Edwin Glass, were drafted, and H. B. came back to Falls County to take care of the family farm. After World War I ended, H. B. and his brothers, A. F., Otto, and Edwin Glass formed their own drilling company called "Glass Brothers." It was while they were drilling around Alcoa in Milam County, Texas that H. B. met and married on June 30, 1926 at Lexington, Texas to Hester Virginia Crump, b March 31, 1907 in Rockdale, Milam County, Texas - a daughter of Emory and Ellen (Lucky) Crump. Hester was then teaching school, and they lived in Rockdale for a few years before settling in Rosebud, where H. B. farmed. Hugo Bernard and Hester Virginia (Crump) Glass were the parents of two children:

Twila Marcia Glass, b March 15, 1929 in Cameron, Milam County, Texas-married December 27,1951 to Charles Francis Anderson.

Thomas Charles Glass, b August 25, 1931 in Temple, Bell County, Texas - married June 6, 1959 to Mary Frances Hiles.

In 1950, when age 63 years, H. B. started drilling oil wells again, and did not retire from this until 1968 at age 81 years. On Monday, November 22,1972, while driving from a visit with his brother, Edwin Glass, in Millersview Texas, H. B. hit a concrete culvert railing east of San Saba, and suffered severe head and neck injuries, and a broken right arm. After recovering from the accident, he retired from farming, and died at the age of 94 years.
