SHELTON SMITH GAFFORD

     Shelton Smith Gafford, b November 12, 1907 in Dublin, Texas, d August 17, 1964 near Reagan in Falls County - a son of Reverend Charles Newton and Ada Pearl (Smith) Gafford, who moved to Marlin, Falls County, Texas in 1910.

     Shelton grew up in Marlin, where his father was a grocer-merchant and an ordained minister. He was a graduate of Marlin High School, and received his higher education at North Texas State College in Denton, and at Southwestern University in Georgetown. Shelton taught school in Hog Island and Reagan before becoming a full-time farmer and rancher from 1941 to 1964. He was administrator of the National Youth Association in Falls County from 1941 to 1943, A.S.C.S. Director, and a Director and Financier of First National Bank in Marlin.

     On September 11, 1935, Shelton Smith Gafford married Mina Ruth Bryan, b July 1, 1910 - a daughter of Peyton James and Ella Victoria (Binnicker) Bryan. Mina Ruth was a 1929 graduate of Marlin High School.

     Shelton and Mina Ruth Gafford had one son: Daniel Shelton Gafford, b February 20, 1938 in Marlin, who resides in Petersburg, Virginia in 1986
